Sundar translates to English as beautiful, lovely and charming. Sundar is an essential quality of life, not just a superficial sense of beauty. Identifying yourself with the superficial qualities of your looks or mannerisms becomes part of the ego personality. When you meditate and allow yourself to sit in deeper, quieter stillness within yourself, then you discover that Beauty and Bliss exist within you, at the core of your spiritual being. The nature of the regular human mind is to pay attention only to the most obvious, surface aspects of beauty. We all naturally love the beauty of the world. The experiences of beauty in the world are always changing, and that changing quality is also beautiful. However, there is great, lasting satisfaction in sitting in meditation, and awakening to the unchanging source of beauty that lives inside you. The essence of your being is always beautiful.
Meditation Practice Upon Sundar
Sit with closed eyes and meditate on the inner space in you that is beautiful. Give the name Sundar to this pure space and know that beauty exists in your own heart and breath and mind space. Spend a few minutes a day in meditation on this pure beauty, repeating the name Sundar. Know that this quality you are perceiving is the same beauty you perceive when you open your eyes and see beauty in the world. Pure beauty is never lost, when you are in meditation or when your eyes are open and you are moving about in the world.
