Social media helps businesses – all businesses – including solo-preneurs like yoga teachers. If you want to compete in the oh-so-competitive world of yoga, you need to up your game, and getting a Facebook Page is a great step in the right direction. A Facebook Page is different than your personal profile. Your personal profile is where you post pictures of your last vacation, chat with friends, and share what you just ate for breakfast. Your Facebook Page is something you create to highlight your professional life, services, and offerings – here, you post about your upcoming hip-opening workshop, the meditation series you're running, or a quote you themed your last class around, and your page is meant to accumulate fans, not friends.

The web is the ultimate equalizer, so if you want to expand your reach and grow your class sizes, it’s essential that you use it to its greatest advantage. Social media is an awesome free tool that enables you to market your offerings, engage with students, and find other yoga professionals that you can network with.

Still not convinced? Here are some reasons why you (yes, you yoga teacher), need a Facebook Page.

1. It serves your students – Teaching yoga is first and foremost about being of service to our students, so hang out where they hang out (on Facebook!), and tell them about all the amazing offerings you have. Sharing your offerings on your personal Facebook profile will get annoying for your friends and family, posting them on your Facebook Page is an act of service. The best way to serve your students is to let them know about the things that matter to them.

2. It builds relationships – Taking the conversation out of the studio and onto Facebook is a great way to connect with your students and build relationships off-the-mat. Plus, your Facebook Page is available 24/7, so even if they only get to your class once a week, there is a sense of continued connection.

3. It expands your reach – Social media platforms, like Facebook, encourage sharing – it’s the name of the game. If your students resound with something you post on Facebook, chances are they’ll share it with their friends. Now, without any effort on your part, your yoga offerings are in front of many more eyeballs – and referrals from friends go way further than brochures on a desk.

4. It’s free – There is no excuse not to make use of this easy-to-use, free service. Making flyers, writing brochures, and designing business cards take time and money, and though they might be beneficial to a point, you can share all that same info on your Facebook Page for free with the exact people who are interested in hearing about it. You can’t beat that!

If you’re new to Facebook, it can be a little intimidating to learn all the ins-and-outs. So, be patient, and have fun – ‘cause if you’re not having fun with it, you won’t stick with it, and if you don’t stick with it, you won’t see the amazing benefits it can offer you.
