Alex Grey

A Vajrayana practitioner and world-renowned visionary, Alex Grey is an American artist specializing in spiritual and psychedelic art.

His works span a variety of forms, including performance art, process art, installation art, sculpture, visionary art and painting. The international psychedelic community has embraced Grey as an important "Mapmaker" and spokesman for the visionary realm.

While attending the School of the Museum of Fine Arts to study with conceptual artist Jay Jaroslav, Grey had a series of entheogenic ally induced mystical experiences that transformed his agnostic existentialism to a radical transcendentalism. After this awakening, Grey went on to work in the anatomy department at Harvard Medical School preparing bodies for dissection. While there, he met Dr Herbert Benson and Dr Joan Borysenko and began conducting scientific experiments to investigate subtle healing energies. Combining his anatomical training with artistic passion, Grey later went on to teach Artistic Anatomy and Figure Sculpture at New York University for nearly a decade.

Now, Grey and his wife Allyson teach courses in Visionary Art at The Open Center in New York City, Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, the California Institute of Integral Studies and the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York.

Grey is a member of the Integral Institute, as well as on the board of advisors for the Center for Cognitive Liberty and Ethics, and chairman of Wisdom University's Sacred Art Department.

After following Alex Grey for a few years, I have come to realize how great it is to have someone like him on this Earth. Not only is he a wonderful artist, he goes much deeper into the meanings of his art and goes into such effort and length to find the source of where all art comes from.
