As a consultant, Dr. Puff offers three different programs. They are: 1. “In-the-Zone” focus training for leadership This aspect of our consulting focuses on creating an “in-the-zone” mentality for executives, key sales and marketing personnel, and all those involved in using their mental faculties to grow and improve the company. He uses hand’s-on experiences, to help people function with clear and single-minded focus, much like top athletes and performers do. Much of our normal mental activity is useless or even counterproductive. By learning how to clear the mind of unnecessary commentary it is possible to achieve single-focus attention, resulting in high-levels of productivity and creativity. Working “in-the-zone” may be observed in a great artist, a world-class athlete, and in some very healthy human beings. The concept is the same in all situations: when the mind is free to focus on one thing at a time without fear of criticism or failure, masterpieces are created.
This aspect of consulting is adapted from Dr. Puff’s article/podcast “Living a Peaceful Life.” It is the culmination of decades of his research and personal explorations into the highest levels of human living. A quote from the article: In simpler terms, live completely in the now. Be aware of your surroundings, but practice clearing your mind of the self-talk that clutters your thoughts. Relax and find delight in each and every thing around you, from the tiniest insect, to the song on your car radio, to a colorful painting in your doctor’s office. Simply surround yourself in the wonders of “what is,” and let go of every other thought. As you learn to just be in the now, the eventual change in you will not only be an acceptance of “what is,” but a loving of “what is.”
2. Stress-Management Skills: In today’s society, juggling the many pressures of our job and personal life without sacrificing our health is an art. Failure to do so can, at the very least, affect concentration and productivity at work. More seriously, it can result in health conditions such as insomnia, high blood-pressure, anxiety, depression and heart conditions.
In this program Dr. Puff teaches stress-management skills such as meditation, mindfulness, simplification, self-care, awareness, and pacing to avoid burnout.
Dr. Puff was first introduced to meditation from Dr. Benson of Harvard, author of the best selling book The Relaxation Response, who is the current world-class researcher in meditation and stress. Dr. Puff has been meditating and teaching stress management for decades. The benefits of stress reduction to individuals and organizations are countless. Learning these skills can improve an individual’s quality of life and longevity. The company will benefit in terms of decreased absenteeism due to stress and illness, and a more focused, productive workforce.
3. Creating a Positive Work Environment: This aspect of Dr. Puff’s consulting focuses on creating a more positive, healthy work environment. A negative work environment can squelch the creative thinking necessary for problem-solving and the innovation of new ideas which lead to company growth. Employees may holdback, unwilling to risk criticism, saving their energy for dealing with office politics instead. The physical environment and set-up of a work space also have an impact on the work culture. What often happens is that everyone gets accustomed to the status quo work environment, unaware of the negative aspects, or at least unaware that change is possible. This program is designed to get the ball rolling in a positive direction, creating a synergy that brings out the best in everyone, utilizing the skills and strengths of all team members. Dr. Puff teaches companies to identify the behaviors and elements of the physical environment which drag down employee mood and inhibit the optimal functioning of the organization. This results in better collaborative work, less employee turnover, and improved job-satisfaction.
