Sometimes the way to learn proper meditation is to get a sense for what can happen through meditation. In my blog on meditation and improved health, I discuss one way of understanding mediation (just one way among many). I think the challenge for those new to meditation is to find a technique that is easy and comfortable to fall into. It's easy to try one that ends up being difficult and frustrating. I had to practice Tai Chi for 9 years before I could consider a serious sitting meditation practice; that was simply and necessarily my way. There is no such thing as proper meditation, but there is such a thing as your best effort.
