Robert Heinzman has one of those inspiring bios (check out his Zaadz profile) that make you glad such people live in the world. Like so many in the community, he's committed to creating a better future—which for him has taken the form of issues around mining-related water pollution and working to conserve tropical rainforests. He's protested at the World Bank, edited the book
Lessons of the Rainforest, and worked to create a healthier infrastructure in the Maya Biosphere Reserve in Northern Guatemala.
Amazing stuff.
It's his latest work, though, that brought him to Zaadz.
Some of you might remember, back when Zaadz was first getting started, seeing a What Is Enlightenment? banner up in our Featured Friends slot. Others of you discovered Zaadz through the articles and advertisements WIE has run on us. For those of you who haven't yet learned of the publication, though, Robert has a few words for you about the magazine, and the cause, to which he's currently so committed.
Here's his
letter.
Before you skip over to that page, though, I'd like to toss in my $0.02, just because
What Is Enlightenment? magazine is the publication that most frequently pushes my edges. I think that's saying something.
Some magazines, such as
Utne or
Ode or
Sun, I read because I enjoy feeling supported in my view of the world. Others (which, um, I'll not mention here) I'll avoid because I'm skeptical of the mainstream media and their probable or potential allegiances.
WIE is in a category unto itself; it's the magazine that most reliably reveals to me just where my edges lie, and where the prejudices and assumptions of my own belief systems hide. I certainly don't always agree with the interviewees and articles in those pages, but I do know, with each quarterly issue, that I'll be challenged.
Then again, I've always been a sucker for those big unanswerable questions.
I'm sure you know what I mean. :)
If you'd like to learn more about the magazine,
Robert's letter to you awaits. (It's worth a click; included there is the opportunity for Zaadz members to
subscribe for over 30% off the cover price. Sorry, gang; I tried for free. ;) Go have a look, and, of course, make sure to say hi on Zaadz, too.
In service, love, and challenging assumptions,
Siona and the
Zaadz Team.
