Because I have a feeling a large number of you don't do the whole mainstream media thing, and don't subscribe to the usual big-name newspapers, I'd guess that you might not have seen
The Case Foundation's latest initiative. If not, please have a read: it's important and inspiring and wonderfully grassroots, and a wonderful opportunity for you to do something incredible for your favorite
cause or charity.
I'll keep it quick. :)
In short, The Case Foundation (and their partner, Parade magazine) is
awarding $500,000 in grants to organizations that inspire online giving.
However, they're not the ones picking the causes that'll be supported; instead, they're awarding the grants to those charities that attract the most unique donors. And this is where you (or should I say, we :) come in.
If you sign up
here,
you can volunteer your chosen cause, encouraging others to donate to it as well. The eight people who inspire the most donations (not the largest dollar amount, but the largest number of 'votes' in support) will get $500,000 for that charity.
Good stuff.
The initiative (called "
America's Giving Challenge") is running through January 31st, so you still have plenty of time to participate. To my mind, it's a great post-holiday project, and there's plenty of potential for any one of you to make a big, big difference.
So go have a look, and
sign up (or, if your
cause is already listed, make a contribution to help it along the path!) and let's get the word out. If you know of anyone else who might not be a regular reader of USA Today and the like, please please please pass this on!
In service and spirit and great anticipation,
Siona,
and the rest of The Gaia Team
PS. If you have an questions, pop a note to Katherine at katherinet@casefoundation.org. And if you don't have questions, well, just send her a note of appreciation. After all, they're doing such, such good work. :)
PPS. And yes, it's our first Gaia newsletter! We'll be sending a welcome note shortly, but this has a deadline and the sooner you get started, the better. But keep an eye on your inbox, because this is just the beginning...
