Nothing average ever stood as a monument to progress. When progress is looking for a partner it doesn't turn to those who believe they are only average. It turns instead to those who are forever searching and striving to become the best they possibly can. If we seek the average level we cannot hope to achieve a high level of success. Our only hope is to avoid being a failure.

“Our only hope is to avoid being a failure.” I take exception to this phrase. To be afraid of failure, to strive against it with all of one’s will, will surely land us there in a “bad” way. I would argue that being able to handle failure and continue on one’s path is a mark of personal success. To live in fear of failure is to live in stagnation.
We are enough. I live in a world that reminds me that I’m not enough and therefore need to buy or be something more than I am. When I look for inspirational quotes, I don’t need to be made to fear failure, to believe that I must avoid failure. In re-reading the quote, I can see a distinction between failing on a specific task and being a failure in one’s life, and still I have this reaction to the quote overall which I recognize as part of my Shadow.
