The misconception about enlightenment stems from, or is at least compounded by, the fact that most of the world's recognized experts on the subject of enlightenment are not enlightened. Some are great mystics, some are great scholars, some are both, and most are neither, but exceedingly few are awake.

It's important to tell everyone that “Jed McKenna” does not exist. There is no such person. I read his books with interest, enjoyment, and many grins, but then heard a rumor that he was not a real character, but a pseudonym of someone - but who? It has been suggested that the publisher is the real author, but I don't know if the mystery has yet been solved. Hmmm. An enlightened teacher who is so enlightened that he doesn't really exist…. interesting proposition. I do highly recommend reading his books, knowing all the while that it is either fiction, or fictionalized, or the truth – but which? I guess you'll have to become enlightened to find out. Maybe the author is you….
Doesn't exist eh? That's most excellent. From what I can see the problem with enlightenment is that people think it is a thing which you get, that it is an achievement. In my experience the enlightenment is learning, and deeply getting, that there is nothing to get. You already are that, and you begin to live from that knowing.
