Most of my friends, and most of my friends' children, also have degrees. That doesnt mean that they've managed to find the kind of work they wanted. Not at all.
They went to university because someone, at a time when universities were important, said that, in order to rise in the world, you had to have a degree.
And thus the world was deprived of some excellent gardeners, bakers, antique dealers, sculptors, and writers. Perhaps this is the moment to review the situation. Doctors, engineers, scientists, and lawyers need to go to university, but does everyone?

This is very true. I think it's weird when artists go to school; I think many talents would be better learned on one's own, or via apprenticeship. However, in the world we live in today there are many different kinds of art, and many ways to share it. Because the world is so connected, it makes it hard for one individual to stand out for any extended period of time because someone else takes the idea, makes it better. And with so many ways to steal information, it can be hard to make money. Artists and such do what they do because they love it. But let's face it–we have to eat. Me, for example. I'm going to school to be a teacher. Will I enjoy it? Of course. But I'm only doing it to fund my passion for writing. I think many people are the same way.
