Does anybody really think that they didn't get what they had because they didn't have the talent or the strength or the endurance or the commitment?

The hottest places in Hell are reserved for those who in time of great moral crises maintain their neutrality.

The corporate workplace, where people are kept in thrall, where total commitment is the norm, where people are stripped off their identity and have to adapt a code of conduct. This is the very antithesis of democracy. -.-

What may be the significance of so many forms of "spirituality" on this planet that are antagonistic to "life" -- and Christianity at the head of that list, with its "calumny" against life, its faith that just because nothing in life is eternal therefore life itself contains no value, nothing that makes it worth living, investing our souls in, committing our consciences to?

Struggle ends where commitment begins.

My father always would say, "My daughter will go into politics? My daughter will become prime minister", but it's not what I wanted to do. I would say, "No, Papa, I will never go into politics." As I've said before, this is not the life I chose; it chose me ... But I accepted the responsibility and I've never wavered in my commitment.

I've been singing this song now for twenty five minutes. I could sing it
for another twenty five minutes. I'm not proud... or tired.

After you have made your commitment to say no to what no longer serves you, you will probably be invited to demonstrate that you really mean it.

The bottom line is it is really important to be involved with your salespeople. CEO Anne Mulcahy has said she will go anywhere anytime to save a Xerox customer. That's the kind of engagement you have to have to be successful.

The tendency in our spiritual life but also our more general attitude toward love is that our feelings are all that is going on. And so to us the totality of love is what we feel. But to really love someone requires commitment, fidelity and vulnerability. Mother Teresa wasn't "feeling" Christ's love, and she could have shut down. But she was up at 4:30 every morning for Jesus, and still writing to him, "Your happiness is all I want."

Spend regularly and constantly two or three hours of the morning in study and retirement. I do not take upon me to prescribe what you shall employ yourself about. I only propose the passing two or three hours of the twenty-four in private.

It began with the Wisdom of Foolishness, a commitment to remain fluid, receptive, in process, part of the Membrane of Things as I struck out on that spiritual Route 66, the Experience Trail, determined to follow it to the end. It began with yours truly spontaneously ceasing to be myself and becoming someone else, assuming in the blink of an “I” the role of a drifter, a rolling stone, a wayward mariner lone and visionary on the High Seas of Chance and Possibility.

The irony of commitment is that it's deeply liberating ~ in work, in play, in love.

Commitment is doing what you said you would do, after the feeling you said it in has passed.

My notion about service is actually that kind of relationship in which you have a commitment to the other person.  Now, I don't mean to the person's body or to the person's personality, or to the person's stomach, or the person's almost anything.  What I mean in fact is that for me what service is about is being committed to the other being.  To other person spiritually.  To who the other person is.  Now the problem with that is that, to the degree that you are in fact committed to the other person, you are only as valuable as the degree to which you can deal with the other person's stuff, their evidence, their manifestation, and that's what service is about.  Service is knowing who the other person is and being able to tolerate giving space to their garbage.  What most people do is to give to people's quality and deal with their garbage.  Actually, you should do it the other way around.  Deal with who they are and give space to their garbage.  Keep interacting with them as if they are God.  And every time you get garbage from them, give space to the garbage and go back and interact with them as if they were God.

Commitment is what your boss needs you to have.  Choice is what you need to have.

The kind of commitment I find among the best performers across virtually every field is a single-minded passion for what they do, an unwavering desire for excellence in the way they think and the way they work. Genuine confidence is what launches you out of bed in the morning, and through your day with a spring in your step.

Commitment is healthiest when it is not without doubt but in spite of doubt.

Knowing that one is always capable of change, the second step lies in making the decision to change. Change does not occur by merely willing it anymore than behavior changes simply through insight.

He must also know evil, hate and bigotry as real phenomena, but he must see love as the greater force. He must not doubt this even for a moment or he is lost. His only salvation is to dedicate himself to love, in the same fashion as Gandhi did to militant nonviolence, as Socrates to truth, as Jesus did to love and as More did to integrity. Only then will he have the strength to combat the forces of doubt, confusion and contradiction. He can depend upon no on or no thing for reinforcement and assurance but himself.
