You have always fought against your dreams, and 'I want' has never even shown its face.  It was always drowned out by 'I must' or 'I hope' or 'I need...'

We are wistful about the golden days of the past and dream of a distant future unclouded by necessity. But I suspect that if our inner souls were asked what in life they really missed, the answer would be primal danger and stress.

The ego is the single biggest obstruction to the achievement of anything. Between-ness is the act of acting without ego. You act, but you are not the actor.             The Personality wants:

            •  Continuity on earth
            •  The relative values of this temporary existence
            •  Intellectual information put at the service of worldly interests (a social, scientific, or commercial career)
            •   Mediocrity – since rash extremes can never expect to win public approval and gain social and worldly advantage
            •   Utilitarianism, meaning everything that fits in with mundane computation and logical reason
 

            The Spiritual Witness on the other hand, desires:

            •   To unite with the human and thus transmute it into an immortal being
            •   Absolute values which are indestructible
            •   To open the “heart” to intuitive knowledge
            •   The sense of excess, as a springboard from which to overleap human limitations and convert the fall of man into an opportunity of evolution
            •   Unalterable love of reality
            •   Love of life for its own sake
            •   Love of impersonal Love

Most humans know their own "reason" only in the sense that Hume defined it, as "a slave to the passions"--and by "passions" he meant not moral passions or the passions of transcendent genius, but only low appetites or base desires, which society and economy ultimately shape and spur on in us.
