Even if we spend a lot of money on gifts for everyone in our family, nothing we buy could give them as much happiness as the gift of our awareness, our smile. And this precious gift costs nothing. If you have lost your smile and yet are still capable of seeing that a dandelion is keeping it for you, the situation is not too bad. You still have enough mindfulness to see that the smile is there.

You only need to breathe consciously one or two times and you will recover your smile. The dandelion is one member of your community of friends. It is there, quite faithful, keeping your smile for you.

Connecting the individual consciousness together within yourself, is the gift of the giver. It is with a touch of love that your hands will recieve all that is hidden behind love. The touch is mine.

A universe comes to contribute to our happiness when reverie comes to accentuate our repose. You must tell the man who wants to dream well to begin by being happy. There is no such thing as a problem without a gift for you in its hands. You seek problems because you need their gifts.

We all laughed when Oota told how the government sometimes provided housing for the Aborigines.  The people slept in the yard and used the houses for storage.  That brought up their definition of a gift.  According to the tribe, a gift is only a gift when you give someone what the person wants.  It is not a gift if you give what you want them to have.  A gift has no attachment.  It is given unconditionally.  The persons receiving it have the right to do anything with the gift:  use it, destroy it, give it away, whatever.  It is theirs without condition, and the giver expects nothing in return.  If it doesn't fit that criteria, it is not a gift.  It should be classified as something else.  I had to agree that government gifts and, unfortunately, most of what my society would consider a gift would be classified differently by these people.
