To be green is to reject right and left, and to be green is definitely not blue or red.
Quotes about Left
If an enemy strikes your left cheek, offer him your right.
"Don't you understand anything? Isn't it absolutely essential to keep a fierce Left and a fierce Right, both on their toes and each terrified of the other? That's how we get things done. Any opposition to the N.I.C.E. is represented as a Left racket in the Right papers and a Right racket in the Left papers. If it's properly done, you get each side outbidding the other in support of us--to refute the enemy slanders. Of course we're non-political. The real power always is." -Miss Hardcastle.
If someone would command me to choose between left and right,
I will look left, then right, then left again, and perhaps right again too.
Then cross the dangerous street, and continue my way.
What does it really mean to be a leftist in the early part of the 21st century? What are we really talking about? And I can just be very candid with you. It means to have a certain kind of temperament, to make certain kinds of political and ethical choices, and to exercise certain analytical focuses in targeting on the catastrophic and the monstrous, the scandalous, the traumatic, that are often hidden and concealed in the deodorized and manicured discourses of the mainstream. That's what it means to be a leftist. So let's just be clear about it.
They (Conservatives) don't get it. We (Liberals) love America just as much as they do. But in a differenct way. You see, they love America the way a four-year-old loves her mommy. Liberals love America like grown-ups.j To a four-year-old everything mommy does is wonderful and anyone who criticizes mommy is bad. Grown-up love means understanding what you love, taking the good with the bad, and helping your loved one grow.
Conservative extremists minimize the role of compassion, often while maximizing their use of the word; liberal extremists minimize the role of wisdom and often descend into what Chogram Trungpa Rinpoche has called "idiot compassion"
The left needs a new paradigm. The collapse of communism and the abandonment by democratic socialists parties of the traditional socialist objective of national ownership of the means of production have deprived the left of the goals it cherished over the two centuries in which it formed and grew to a position of great political power and intellectual influence. But that is not the only reason why the left needs a new paradigm. The trade union movement has been the powerhouse and the treasury of the left in many countries. What capitalists failed to accomplish by a century of repressive measures against trade union leaders, the World Trade Organization, enthusiastically endorsed by social democrat government around the world, is doing for them. When barriers to imports are removed, nationally based trade unions are undermined.
