Deciding to remember, and what to remember, is how we decide who we are.
What others remember about our behavior is often edited. What we remember about ourselves and others is similarly self-edited.
It is ultimately the important things in our lives that we will remember, and every now and then it’s a good idea to just start fresh with a new list.
Sometimes I try to remember things my mother told me about the awful way he was raised. But why does he have to keep on going? Why would you take something bad out of your mouth and hand it to another, saying, Here, eat this?
