Spirituality exists wherever we struggle with the issue of how our lives fit into the greater cosmic scheme of things. Sometimes people get the mistaken notion that spirituality is a separate department of life, the penthouse of existence. But rightly understood, it is a vital awareness that pervades all realms of our being.

Wherever we may come alive, that is the area in which we are spiritual.

Inherent in the impulse to be free, is insecurity.  The impulse to be free comes from outside of the mind, and because of this, it makes the mind feel very insecure.  Most spiritual seekers move away from this insecurity by seeking and striving for a distant spiritual goal.  That’s how they avoid feeling insecure.

Do not think that enlightenment is going to make you special, it's not. If you feel special in any way, then enlightenment has not occurred. I meet a lot of people who think they are enlightened and awake simply because they have had a very moving spiritual experience. They wear their enlightenment on their sleeve like a badge of honor. They sit among friends and talk about how awake they are while sipping coffee at a cafe. The funny thing about enlightenment is that when it is authentic, there is no one to claim it. Enlightenment is very ordinary; it is nothing special. Rather than making you more special, it is going to make you less special. It plants you right in the center of a wonderful humility and innocence. Everyone else may or may not call you enlightened, but when you are enlightened the whole notion of enlightenment and someone who is enlightened is a big joke. I use the word enlightenment all the time; not to point you toward it but to point you beyond it. Do not get stuck in enlightenment.

Spiritual people can be some of the most violent people you will ever meet. Mostly, they are violent to themselves. They violently try to control their minds, their emotions, and their bodies. They become upset with themselves and beat themselves up for not rising up to the conditioned mind's idea of what it believes enlightenment to be. No one ever became free through such violence. Why is it that so few people are truly free? Because they try to conform to ideas, concepts, and beliefs in their heads. They try to concentrate their way to heaven. But freedom is about the natural state, the spontaneous and un-self-conscious expression of beingness. If you want to find it, see that the very idea of "a someone who is in control" is a concept created by the mind. Take one step backward into the unknown.

During a retreat on spirituality a woman rose and said: "I have no need of these practices. I feel spiritual all the time without doing anything." Reb Yerachmiel looked at her more than a moment and said: "The next time you have an urge to be spiritual, take a cold shower. Then dry off and do something kind for someone else."

There are two types of dimensions. Those we perceive and those we do not. Those we do not include the spiritual dimension.

Life is a spiritual practice of blessings and inspiration where the seeds of lovingkindness within our soul will blossom if we tend to them properly. Love is lifes water , sprinkle it over your garden and a tree of life will grow that will bear fruit for eternity.

Our consciousness does not need to be informed by formal religious awareness in order to be disposed and recptive to the divine disclosure. Our very nature as human beings is to be open and porous to deeper meaning. And the spiritual story of humankind, unfolding over the millennia, suggests that the divine life force (God) reveals itself with a prodigious generosity of presence, power, and cultural expression.

There is neither unwisdom nor ignorance; neither bondage, nor liberation. There is but one pure consciousness.

We are not humans going through a spiritual phase, we are spirits going through a humanizing phase.

You don't need to drift around in the 'oh so spiritual' clothes, don't need to use all of the 'oh so spiritual' Indian words, don't need to pretend to be 'oh so spiritual' because it is all a total crock. All just a red herring which is simply a trick of the Self that is distracting you from being true.

None of that has anything whatsoever to do with being true. It is all just talk and pretence only, and talk never truly saved anyone. Talk just brings more talk and never moves from the prison of the mind.

So there won't be any flashes of light shooting out of your third eye, no special energy pumping through the body and definitely no visits from the angels and gods to invite you into the special throne room which has been created just for you.
