Along the Mississippi is a revealing and captivating three-part series that transports viewers along the banks of this great river, travelling from the south to the north of the vast territory of America. It is a journey that takes us to the very soul of the country, capturing its rich spirit by re-discovering the Mississippi as a source of American culture, music and lifestyle. From New Orleans to Angola, from Memphis to Hannibal, Along the Mississippi tells the stories of both contemporary and historical America, its people – Mark Twain, Elvis Presley, the Acadians – and its music – Zydeco and Cajun, Blues, Jazz, and Rock and Roll.

The journey begins with the Atchafalayas, the mystical swamps that adorn the mouth of the Mississippi, inhabited by rare birds, alligators and pelicans. A bit upstream we come to the “Big Easy” – New Orleans.
