Wisdom Teachings: [#67] The Practices of Padmasambhava (June 2014)

Season 10, Episode 2
Available worldwide

Perhaps one of the most influential teachers of Buddhism is Padmasambhava. He is credited with bringing Vajrayana Buddhism into Tibet during the eight century. The greatest of his teachings is that of Dzogchen which purports to bring its practitioners back to a natural primordial state of being, known as the rainbow body. David Wilcock recounts the life and teachings of Padmasambhava as a foundation to build new layers of wisdom teachings in this presentation originally webcast June 23, 2014.

Of course, that "pyramid" isn't a pyramid proper, but rather a gigantic 3D Sri Yantra. I'd never seen it before, and greatly appreciate your bringing it to my attention! Thank you!

I don't know why that dude has to be an ET and the lotus does not represent a flying craft. The lotus represents high attainment of moving from the depths of the shit to the higher realms.

I love David Wilcock and the way he teaches. However, I am disappointed that he switched to this topic and did not finish what he was teaching about ascension and the Law of One. I was aware of the Rainbow Body information and although it is interesting, it is not part of my path. I understand that David is very enthusiastic about it all and it seems to be part of his path. This is not the reason I watch and listen and support him. I will continue to watch after these shows are done. I am a new subscriber and realize these shows are from 2014.

Thank you so much David, again you prove yourself to be an inestimable source of intel.
Until now i had never had a name to call what i called : going asleep without loosing consciousness.
I now know that is that Dzogchen state. i experienced it as a kid, i found it awesome so i practiced it a lot.
Those past years, i ve been neglecting this art since some events i experienced. I will work on getting back into it !
Once again, with synchronicity, this episode of wisdom teachings just happens to be exactly what i needed to see and hear.
I insist : Thanks to Source, Thank you so very much David, i will definitly find a way to help you in return.

David, I just realized my opportune moment for capturing that moment of sleep before dreaming, often happens while I'm watching your show! Sometimes it's somewhat induced by me enjoying a beer while I watch in the afternoon, but also when I'm watching at night before I usually go to sleep.

When I heard the description of the dzogchen being able to perceive, experience and express, it made me think that also sounds like a description of God.

Thanks so much for all your Wisdom Teachings! I am totally interested in the Rainbow Body teachings. Are you also going to talk about the Munay Ki rites? These are ancient Aztec rites supposedly leading to eventual development of the Rainbow Body. I am not sure about all of the teachings of course. Just wondering what your research brings to light about these rites.
Thanks again for all your work to disseminate this wisdom!

I was lucky enough to attend your lecture Saturday morning at the New Living Expo and greet you afterward. I shook your hand and just said "I love your show on Gaiam TV"... then walked away. I loved this teaching about Padmasambhava. You have taught me so much with Wisdom Teachings and I look forward to meeting you again at Contact In The Desert in August. Keep up the great work, David! By the way, I live in Denver and I hope to run into you here someday, too. I would post the photo of us meeting at New Living Expo, but this chatroom doesn't have that ability.

David it's great you're finally going into the detail behind this truly amazing practice, but there are a lot of 'essential' points missing, that people need to know!

(the information you give here is not complete because its a secret initiation and MUST BE RESPECTED!) The Dharma protectors will be unhappy is you breach these secrets! I kid you not.
-The Rainbow body practice and result is part of "Mother Tantra" Practice.
-The Clearlight Practice and result is "Father Tantra.
-There is also "Non Dual" tantra.
-The Five primordial Buddhas are taught and practiced in all four traditions and have their expression in these systems. They represent the personality types we have in the East and West. These Primordial Wisdoms are the Antidotes to the classic neurosis we have as a humans.
-All Generation and Completion stage yogas (which is what you are actually referring to here) bring about 'full Awakening' and are amazing, so don't single out just the rainbow body practice. A very biased, incomplete and lop-sided presentation of this system indeed.

-They must be undertaken in combination with a thorough understanding of the Sutras, for a practitioner to have a balanced experience of mind, all sentient beings and reality.

BTW those termas you mention with photos; well actually they are not termas they are in fact the 108 volumes of Buddhas teaching called the Kangur. Always found near an altar or shine.
-Termas are statues of deities, Buddhas, Vajras Bells and texts hidden in the elements. ie rocks, trees, sky, water and mind. (they contain hidden teachings to be found when the time is right)
-VAJRAS the things you keeps showing are the masculine symbol, and aspect of reality. Not an alien device lol! They mean Diamond Nature of phenomena and refer to the emptiness of inherent existence which includes the quantum field and everything in it... There is the Bell with Vajra handle, which is the Feminine aspect of reality, the quantum field, Torus and singularity too. Take a close look! Together they represent Method and Wisdom. The male and female in union.
These tantric practices are common in all (Four Schools) of Tibetan Buddhism not just Nyingma. His Holiness The Dalai Lama is "Gelugpa" and he also teaches these practices.

I personally believe you wont be happy till you experience the full depth and scope of this ancient Tibetan culture of Awakening. You have to commit to this inner journey fully to actually KNOW what you're talking about. Give your followers your personal experience don't just be a fence sitter here, or pretend with convincing little internet snippets the average person wouldn't be exposed to yet!

Go get an Initiation under a highly qualified Lama and take the (lifetime) vows that come with these practices. These include Bodhisattva vows and Tantric vows....Yes also there is a daily commitment INCLUDING a retreat commitment of 400 thousand mantras and.. oh yeah a fire Puja on completion with all the many ingredients and materials you MUST have for it to be accomplished properly. So there you have it. NOT as easy as you've thought. Definitely not spontaneous is it lol!
Thanks so much for bringing world wide attention to this Profound Lineage David!

I agree, that David is way too full of Hopium on this. Those people who succeeded (160,000??? "documented." ? Spiritual stories are often full of symbolic exaggeration...).
But,.. seriously, these practitioners spent their lives in practice all day long. And now we're supposed to believe that voila! it's the end of a Cycle, and thousands of lazy, armchair video watchers are going to break through and achieve the Rainbow Body?
I think you have to earn it, and progress through hard work in slowly changing the energy bodies.
David has a tendency to get lost in his dreams, imho. I enjoy the science stuff. Good to deprogram.
I'm 70 and have been the observer of many 'spiritual' movements. At the end, I see very few who have obtained. But many who got intoxicated on dreams of having super powers. David sells that snake oil too. Shame.
Time will tell.
But I find this disappointing to promise so much.
Besides, he says Padmasambhava was an ET from advanced being level. WHY then would anyone believe this is going to fall into their lap?
This is as misleading as promising kids they can grow up to become the president, or anything they dream of. Such puffery and BS.

kmoorin, posted on July 1, 2014

I have no doubt about all that goes into the rituals of the Terma lineage in Tibetan culture.

There is a saying that I definitely believe in: "Many paths lead to the one." So, I believe this is true also for working on achieving the "Rainbow Light body." There is more than one way to achieve this amazing and ultimate, permanent state of dzogchen.

I know you have already filmed these and are probably researching and working on future episodes. (Yay) I am truly hoping you are reading up on the Lotus Sutra, the Writings of Nichiren Daishonin and the writings of Daisaku Ikeda! :-D Oh, I so think you would really appreciate them! Clark Strand recently published a great book called Waking the Buddha. It's actually from the perspective of one who has studied quite a bit himself about buddhism and talks about the role of the SGI in modern day buddhist religion - very applicable for this time.
I love the Lotus Sutra, it presents concepts that are not found in other sutras, such as the Mutual Possession of the Ten Worlds (all the worlds are found inside each other and therefore you can connect with your buddha nature anywhere & at any time - anyone can) and the 3000 Realms in one moment of life. Nam Myoho Renge Kyo (NMRK) is the title of the sutra is that which lies within everything and the practice includes (although you don't have to use this) sitting in front of a Gohonzon (scroll) with NMRK in characters down the middle and all the elements of the universe around it. This acts a mirror of your life and with NMRK down the middle this demonstrates how this is within all tens worlds. When you chant, you are "polishing your own mirror", hence learning to see your life correctly. The sutra also reveals that Shakyamuni is not the original buddha too... and more.
Glad you mentioned Boulder. Sent me on memory lane! I loved it and lived there four years and started meditating at the Shambhala Center and knew Naropa well. :-) Lovely places and communities. Hope you enjoyed yourself tremendously. :-)

Yes I just listen to Clark Strand give a talk at our center here in Las Vegas and had him sign his book for me.. Side note: I asked him privately what was his personal practice and shared it was the rosary. I check it out but there is too much energy around it for me from my past being a recovery catholic and excommunicating myself at the age 8 confronting the priest. But it is another way. Great comment.

lauraphoto07, posted on July 1, 2014

How wonderful and thank you for your response. I missed his talk out here in SF - but cannot wait to read the book and recommend it to many others. :-) I think there is a purpose for all paths really. I have embraced many and my strongest practice is Nichiren Buddhism. I did test out this practice a bit last night for half an hour (given recent show instructions) and then chanted afterwards - nam myoho renge kyo - I did feel more clear and centered when I chanted after doing the above but I honestly feel wonderfully energized by chanting. I feel it moving things at very depths of my being. :-) Warmest regards to you.

Thanks, David for sharing this. To follow up on Kuru's post, there are a number of other mispronunciations... e.g. Vairocana and Mahacarya, the c is pronounced like ch (Vairochana, Mahacharya). Stupa is stupa, not shtupa. There are plenty of Tibetan teachers in the U.S. who have been teaching for decades and many students and resources to clarify beyond books and the internet. Many of these teachings have been secret, so be careful jumping to conclusions based on what's in print.

Kuru, posted on June 24, 2014

Thanks, David. Since you mention pronunciation, a small correction on your Tibetan terms. Yeshe is pronounced Yes-shay (as in Yeshe Tsogyal, Padmasambhava's student and consort, realized dakini; yeshe means wisdom) and Nyingma is pronounced like it's spelled, without an "i" immediately after the N. Great inspiration.

David, you are a blessing. A lot of things are coming together, making sense to me now. I had studied Dzogchen many years ago and during my studies, had a spontaneous awakening experience, much like what you describe. I love how you've tied this into the Law of One and Ascension. I'm renewed in my commitment to practice, thank you again for these teachings.

Enjoyed the power point. For what's it worth from my own experience the Kundalini/prana energy must be activated because it is directly connected to consciousness. In meditation you physically go through the different states; saffron, followed by blue pearl, followed by the rainbow state, followed by pure mind. The activation of kundalini into prana causes a physical change to the body that makes this happen. The download of information, from the cosmos, happens naturally without effort at the time when kundalini reaches the crown and changes to prana energy, which vibrates every cell in the body. As the body integrates this energy, the downloaded information is released in bits everyday for the brain to process. This activation and integration is so much easier today. Thank you Dave for allowing me to share.

Dolores Cannon, hypnotherapist, does past life regressions and her work validates what David says about wanderers. She has written a book called "The Three Waves of Volunteers" referring to ET's volunteering to assist on earth by incarnating here. The first wave of volunteers would be up to 60 years of age. Some find earth life difficult and become suicidal, having forgotten their true home, and finding life so hard. Dolores says those born on earth are considered very brave. She talks about the two other waves as well. Worth checking out.

Being, posted on June 30, 2014

Her work was the first to resonate with me. I know I have never been to this planet before. I still find it challenging and odd here. But she doesn't give us much info on how to cope for the 1st wave. So David work and I love James Van Praagh work has truly helped me here.

slash_7, posted on June 23, 2014

How does one explain the for the process of leaning by incarnation into a human body. It seems to be needed by all of us in order to gain compassion and love for everything. Does that mean we are to short cut the process and go directly to rainbow body. But as explained in the book Destiny of Souls, we grow and learn with each incarnation. but we do not lose our idenity even as we mature as souls and why would one want to lose idenity if the Godhead is made of conscious idenity and the idea is to become completely like and with God and achieve total conscious idenity. It seems that to achieve rainbow body you lose too much of yourself and that to me seems more like death rather than life and I do beleive God is life.

jeffersonlovely, posted on June 25, 2014

It is a surrendering to a higher state of your self. We are all, always, connected to all that is because we are all that is-- fractalized. It's not death, it's becoming more of yourself, which is actually one with all that is. You don't lose your identity, you expand it.

kelly.bowman, posted on June 24, 2014

I don't think he reads the comments. I don't think he cares. He probably was bored with the show and the material. The fact is most of us will not travel to Tibet and meditate in a cave and we will not achieve Rainbow Body. I think the subject is fine, however, the sudden switch in content when so many were following is inconsiderate.

sgcorrigan06, posted on June 27, 2014

myself. At first I was slightly aggravated just for a few moments because he went from something which was super in touch with things going on energetically for many people in the now, to something that is generally a later lesson for those who don't already know the rainbow body stuff.

As with 'following' the work of any teacher you inevitably get to a point where you need to do a bit on your own, as teachers just like the rest of us have things that come up that cannot be openly discussed for whatever reason at certain times. Also if you are dealing with material which you find there is some reason why it is more ethical for some reason for you to not release at a specific time, or would do more damage if (like if you had a realization, because we are all learning every day) you release it as you had planned or what ever… teachers of things like this have to be adaptable, and so must students. I basically feel that there is some reason in it for all of us that he has changed the topic, and I am pretty sure he cares or he would not be doing what he does. Maybe someone did come down on him, that is after all what they generally try to do when they find a weakness to exploit in people who speak out. It happens. And David is Human, or inhabits a human body in this world just like everyone else who does. I am also pretty sure he controls how and when he responds to people (not only because he has his own website) because there are a lot of energy games that take place within comment sections all across the internet and to keep your work clear and focused sometimes you have to be reserved with interaction on a given platform. That is just my opinion, but I have paid attention to his work for years and he usually gives a reason later that makes sense. I don't always agree with everything he says, but overall I think he's pretty awesome and love what he is doing for so many people, myself included.

He may have also decided that the rainbow body teaching is a better answer to something going on than focusing where he was. But you don't have to be in a cave in Tibet to achieve a rainbow body. You could have it happen walking down the street in NYC or something… depending on you and your circumstances. Practices others have used to do this are just that practices used as a tool. Like the medical practice. There are many paths to achieving it. That is why it is present in so many cultures if you look around you will begin to notice if you have not seen it before. I am curious to see where David is going with this because it has him so excited. Rather than see it as a frustration because I was so appreciative of the other materials he was presenting… I will choose see it as an opportunity to learn something for myself as a result of the fact that he has. Sometimes we learn more when the teacher makes us answer our own questions rather than handing it all to us.

But I am glad to see others have mentioned the abrupt change.

Being, posted on June 30, 2014

Thank you for taking the time to share what I too was feeling. He did express this is where it all started for him about the Rainbow bodies. So we will be patient to see what he feeds us next. Personally I love Gaiamtv and Hayhouse Radio. These are my Sangha. Life is like this. We take the best portions we resonate with and feed ourselves. We have a choice being in this ocean of knowledge to either ride the swells, resist it or sink and let go. I'm glad to see others as well expressing the change. Bottom line though, is to stay in the frequency of love, the art of allowing, being more like water.

Ann.darnell, posted on June 23, 2014

What is the driver behind the desire to achieve the rainbow body? Are those seeking this experience already at the end of their cycles of incarnation and, thus, ready to be merged back into Source? Are those seeking this experience wanting to short-circuit their cycles of incarnation and merge back into Source prematurely? I am having difficulty understanding why we should be driven to seek achievement of the rainbow body simply for the experience of having achieved the rainbow body. Could not the teachings of Padmasambhava have been intended to explain that the rainbow body is naturally experienced at the end of one's cycles of incarnation rather than the achievement of the rainbow body itself being the focus of a lifetime?

csm4692, posted on June 23, 2014

It is simply information or knowledge. No one is forcing you to do anything, your choice. It is as it is.

So I know I'm not from here nor am I coming back. I know when I am done here I will go back home. So yes what is the point David? Even some animals here, dogs will travel miles to find their way back home let alone spiritual beings that have offered to come here to help will too know their way back home.

sgcorrigan06, posted on June 27, 2014

Maybe to utilize it as a means of helping bring this place to a state where it should be on your mission here from wherever you came from? To help others elevate or something along those lines…? To help remind others of who they are so they don't continue to need rescuers to come here and help? Just a thought that came to mind.

Being, posted on June 30, 2014

Yes, so once we come to knowing more of who we are and what we love to do here, we can help our planet. For me it has always been sharing knowledge/wisdom teachings to empower others. I love learning and enriching my own life, then turn around a parrot it to others. I share Gaiamtv sessions with small groups when I'm inspired. Yes, we have the knowledge here. The more we eat clean, juice, stay away from substances that make us sleepy or not plug in, the more we vibrate at higher frequency. I still want to look into a creating a Happiness Day World Wide for us to pivot our thoughts to the present moment and have an attitude of Gratitude for one day with millions doing the same. This may help us step up further to clean up the energy here. Yes we agreed to come here many of us and now is the time to continue to be happy, present and loving.

Until you can do this you will be reincarnating endlessly in Samsara throughout the cycles of time. Russell Targ introduced me to Padmasambhava from listening to Coast to Coast am. Ever since then i have been intrigued. Padmasambhava prophecy is interesting also. Good show David!
