Alone, 180 Days on Lake Baikal (2011)

Only available in Canada, United States

Sylvain Tesson is a writer and adventurer who has spent most of his life traveling the globe to live extreme adventures. In Alone, he spends six months alone on Lake Baikal, completely cut off from the outside world. From February to July, he films himself and his surroundings, and shares with us his feelings as he experiences silence, solitude and communion with nature.

He introduces us to welcoming people and captures the beauty of an untamed and pure environment as the seasons come and go. Here is a beautiful and touching story set in the magnificent Siberian immensity.

Alone, for such a time, such a gift, to have time to experience nothing more than what is in the land and your mind! Thank you for sharing this film and it's presentation of the climate, the beauty of nature as it unveils itself, as well as, what you experienced in your thoughts of solitude.

We in the UK pay the same price for gaia. So why is this video and many others only available in Canada and US. Not impressed!!

How could he just leave the dogs to the rangers? They were his trusted companions.

I thought when they presented him with the dogs, he said they were lending them to him for companionship, meaning he was to return them at the end of his stay, did I misunderstand? It is a shame that they grew to love him, and as dogs are, expected nothing but companionship in return with some food and shelter, to be left behind, but it is my hope that they found joy going back home.

I agree. Leaving the dogs shows that he is essentially selfish and learned nothing on this retreat. Though the photography was stunning, and the lake majestic, the animals are far better than this self-centerd human

thank you for this..."in life, you must simply ask the spirit of a place to help you master time"

This was by far my favorite film watched on Gaiam so far. I will watch this many times. Art on every level.

I would love to do this on a shorter time scale. Not sure I could do 6 months. Great Video!

How beautiful! I am so glad I understand French as well as English, or I'd have lost some of the poetry. And, much as I loved the narration - beautiful writing - I would love to watch it again with just the visuals and music.... a different kind of journey for us audience members.

Thank you so much. This is one of my favorites.
