Amal (2007)

Only available in United States

Autorickshaw driver Amal is content with the small, but vital, role he serves – driving customers around New Delhi as quickly and safely as possible. But his sense of duty is tested by an eccentric, aging billionaire, who, moved by Amal's humility, bequeaths him his entire estate before passing away.

With only one month to discover and claim the inheritance, Amal's struggles with duty and wealth are threatened by all those around him – from a young injured beggar girl and a lovely store merchant, to the danger of the old man's upper-caste friends and siblings, all seeking to claim their share of the riches.

It was a touching story I loved the surprise people had when they realized his humbleness was genuine. And I feel that he felt he had all the things in life that he needed, wanted therefore he was not tempted to be anything other than what he was. I wish I could find such comfort in 'myself' , I dont have much in the way of material things some would say but I have more than I need. I know Im blessed I have 5 wonderful daughters and many grandchildren, I would be proud to call Amal my child :) .

Amal lives a deeply spiritual life very naturally. I felt quite touched by his way of being. I experienced tears of joy many times, and sadness too. I have not felt so much emotion while watching a movie in a long time. Amal did not need the money for himself as he received all that he needed for his happiness, and he gave so much more than money to others through his presence. Namaste

What a great movie! I believe that those with money who are greedy have tainted the idea of having money. Amal would have been able to help people in ways he couldn't imagine. At the same time, it could have complicated things. Since he couldn't read, did he even know? I'm torn about the ending.

Of course he didnt know.......but was happy anyway! and as the old man said.......if he wouldnt take his three rupees, what would he do with 3 billion? Wonderful! Of course the viewers wanted his to get the money...he deserved it.....however.....what he really deserved was happiness!

from getting wrapped up in the drama...blind the entire time to the obvious...beautifully done...wonderful, simply wonderful

What this beautiful film is really about cannot be explained in words.
It can only be felt; some get it in one lifetime; some take many lifetimes,
and some . . .

But for those who need words:

Amal is about money and power and what it does to people;
Amal is about simplicity, caring, compassion, and love; but most of all,
Amal is about how there are "jewels" amongst us, and because of our
deeply busy lives -- we fail to see how brightly those "jewels" shine --
even when those "jewels" are taking care of our very own children --
on a daily basis!

This is what living in Dharma truly means. Yes, there is sacrifice and that is to live a sacred life. I will share this film with others. Thank you kindly.

Such a beautiful story holding on to such a beautiful thought of happiness and receiving such a gift of knowing nothing could ever take this happiness away within to give and receive is the most giving of all things in life especially out of honesty of the Heart
As to making others happy is the most healthiest way to overcome all obstacles in anyone's journey
