Today on Meet the Planet, Lex Gopnik talks to Cara Horowitz about a recent lawsuit brought against the US Navy by the NRDC because of their plans for sonar testing off the pacific coast. The NRDC is asking the Navy to take mitigation measures to protect marine mammals. Rear Admiral James Simons, Director of the Chief of Naval Operations Environmental Readiness Division, joins the show to talk about how the Navy conducts its tests, why shallow water testing is important and what the navy is doing to try to protect marine life. Jefferson Tester of the Massachusetts Lab for Energy and the Environment talks about the potential of geothermal energy and its environmental impact.
