Astral City (2010)

Only available in United States

Life after death was never a concern for Dr. Andre Luiz. That is, until he wakes up feeling lost and confused in a darkened wasteland. What he has yet to realize, is that he has died and is now struggling with his afterlife. Lost in a dimension full of pain and suffering, he desperately yearns for redemption.

His pleas are mercifully heard and he is rescued to an amazing city full of beauty and wonder. In the astral city, Our Home, Dr. Luiz begins a process of transformation that is full of surprising and enlightening experiences. It is this new life in the spiritual dimension where he can start over and bring true healing to himself and others.

Spiritual medium Chico Xavier documented his visions of the afterlife in his best-selling book, Astral City. Xavier’s visions of life in an astral city that hovers in the upper layers of the Earth’s atmosphere are brought to life with an amazing score, by composer Phillip Glass, and brilliant special effects.

I've seen this movie twice and want to see it one more time, or many times. Brilliantly done. Resonated with me. And definitely gives hope

The film was beautifully done. I've read many books on the afterlife, dating back as far as the 1850's. Communication from those who have crossed the veil through automatic writing or direct or indirect channeling is not a new thing. I have never seen a film that so accurately describes the afterlife as it has been communicated through the many books I've read. Online there are free PDF downloads of wonderful books on eternal and the afterlife are available to read if your interested. I would recommend, "Why I Believe The Dead are Alive" and " Undying Mind" by William Dudley Pelley, "Heaven and Earth" by Anthony Borgia, "A Wanderer In The Spirit Lands by Franchezzo, "Life Beyond Death With Evidence" by The Rev. Charles Drayton Thomas, "Broadcasting from Beyond By A.E Perriman", "The Doorway" by Margaret Vivian ", The Last Crossing" and "My Life in Two Worlds" by Gladys Osborne Leonard, " The Earths In The Universe" by Swendenborg, "The Future Life" by Mrs. Elizabeth Sweet, "The Life Elisian", "Through the Mists", " The Gate of Heaven ", "The Heretic", "The Car of Phoebus" all by Robert James Lees, "Where Two Worlds Meet" and "On the Edge of Etheric" by Authur Findlay, "The Witness" by Jessie Platts, "MaryAnne Carew: Wife, Mother, Spirit, Angel", "The Discovered Country" and "Letters from the spirit World" all by Carlyle Petersilea , "Death and After" by Annie Besnat, "The Case Of Lester Coltman" by Lilian Walbrook, "On the Edge of Etheric" by Arthur Findlay, "Getting The Hell Out of Here or What Happens After You Die" by Geoffrey John Cutler. "Gone West" and the sequel "A Subaltern in the Spirit Land", J.S.M. Ward, "Spirit World and Spirit Life" and "Life Here and Hereafter" by Charlotte Elizabeth Dresser, "My Travels in the Spirit World" by Caroline D. Larsen. Many of these are from the website Global Grey. These books will tell the stories this movie just portrayed. Enjoy!

I just wanted to thank you for all that wonderful info. That is some serious research! I really loved the movie Astral City, and its very much the way I've imagined the afterlife from the few materials I've read. However, there's so much information in my head that feels more like memory recall, and there is so much more to it as I'm sure you've imagined, than is seen in the movie. Thank you very much. mj

I love the effects and cultural/ethnic diversity in actors. I didn't like that its main focus was ultra simplistic. It seemed superficial to think that each individual life needed to wait in line for their turn to be judged (much like paying for a cable bill), then if one needs to do more work, can't see their loved ones until the work is done and they are once again approved to do so. The complexity of each individual life is vast, and there was no account for that. Its based on a award system, good vs bad worker merit, very polarizing…much like the over simplicity of catholicism or capitalism. It lacked a feeling of love, compassion, forgiveness and honoring of each individual in their deepening relationship to life.

One man's view, however similar to many others i have read, excellent layout and production, it was fitting for the story line. I believe there's over 7 billion story lines to this mystery, life after death, the afterlife, the continuation of the Soul, whatever label ya want to put on it, thats equality, we are all entitled to our own opinion, and i like this guys story, we are what we think, thoughts become things as The Universe would say...

Very, very excellent. For the first time I have seen the afterlife from a non-American view. I had wondered for so long if people from other nations and cultures were having this experience. If Gaiam has any more of these movies please, please show them. Are there people in Africa and China who have reported NDE?

Sorry to be the oddball here. Allthough lovely, I found this to be a very simplistic take on a deep subject. I too was a bit bothered by the Christian undertones. The lines and plot were overly simplistic and flat in nature and the acting was a bit over dramatic. Adding to all this, the fact that this is in Spanish with subtitles, I was more disappointed than not. Why couldn't they also make this in English? The idea was lovely as was the scenery, but do not feel that it did justice to the topic. Canadians, you did not miss the great film that you imagine you did in my opinion. I am glad for those of you that found this an amazing experience. I just did not find anything insightful or new as someone else said that I had not thought of before.

This was a very well made film, very moving and deeply informative. It had touches that reminded me a little of the movies"What Dreams May Come" and "Defending Your Life". (Note to self: Everyone in the spirit realm wheres white or beige)
But all kidding aside, much of what was said about the afterlife seems very accurate. I have read many other channeled books that describe the afterlife as well as have had dreams where I am talking to my relatives who are in the afterlife. Wonderful movie, I think it should be required viewing for everyone!

I like the intentions that this film had in the interpretation of the upper Astral planes, though I must say it is not how it is in the movie (of course). Nevertheless, I say I do not know where I stand with this because the underlying tone was very obviously Christian. And while I hold nothing truly negative against Christianity, there are a lot of things that I disagree with in both definition and spiritual concept. For example, firstly, the movie's definition of 'God' is a being that has a personality (like in mainstream religion), that can have 'mercy' or 'judgment'. I see the concept of 'God' as the collective energy of everything there is, was, and will be that manifest itself through different levels of existence (for us the third dimension). It's an 'It' rather than a 'He'. Doesn't have needs or wants. Secondly, the life-after-death aspect, while true that one's perception and mind and frequency will play in the construction of the experience they 'wake up' to, the movie for some reason thinks the soul goes to an Astral plane when the soul goes back to the 9th dimension/density where the amnesia lifts and your 'I am' becomes everything there is in existence and perceive a considerate fraction all the energy of what is on all levels (God). Thirdly, like I said the amnesia would lift from the soul which makes the characters that the movie portrayed redundant since they would be energy forms (not humanoid) and would have all knowledge back.

And there are other things that bugged me as a spiritual philosopher. But the movie in itself had unmatched quality cinematic beauty to it. The city itself seemed like a dream and could be described ironically as 'heavenly'. The moral of the story was good, the acting was decent, but the concept was a bit off for my personal taste. I can see however that this might appeal to a less anal individual like myself. It was lovely film. You would enjoy!

And I think it's accurate of some levels of "heaven". It goes on forever with many levels. Andre's mother in heaven seemed to be a high soul who traveled by light. some beings probably govern worlds and hold the cosmos together! Andre was working out his karmic ties and learning lessons.
And those in the higher worlds do interact with us!

I guess I'm going to be the weird one who did NOT enjoy this movie. I thought it was too simplistic. It didn't contain anything that hadn't crossed my mind before and I felt that most parts were dragging on 3x as long as necessary. Just putting this out there for the Canadians who are thinking they missed something. If it brings healing to those that do watch it, I wish you the best. I certainly hope the afterlife is more exciting and trippy than what was suggested in the film.

So beautiful, and easy to follow It helps me to talk to my father who has passed. He has tried to contact me in dreams several times, but every time I get emotional and the contact doesn't happen. Except this last time, in my vivid dream He came to visit. As we were hugging I remembered he had passed. As we are hugging I began to get emotional, but I managed to control myself and enjoy his hug. With a new meaning I asked my dad "So how are you doing?" he said "Great, I am very busy, there is a lot of work"
Me: "Oh what do you do for a living now?" Father: "I supervise construction sites, they got me going to all kinds of places"
then I brought out my grand children for him to meet. Dream ends. When he was living in this dimension, My father was a handyman. He had a master mind when it came to resolving any issue related to fixing something at home. He also visits me in my dreams every time is my birthday. This movie is just a reminder of how the spirit world works. It brought many tears and joy.

Beautiful movie, well made, very artistic, i like the general message but have some issues with some of its core elements.

1. being a doctor who has helped many people in life and having a drink after work and smoking a cigar,, when you are also a decent family man who is a loving husband and caring father is NOT throwing your life away.

2. If there are many, many reincarnations then why don't you have many wives, many mothers, many fathers? Why would you only remember your last family? They talk and show reincarnation but the vision of heaven used doesnt fit that kind of reality at all.

3. reincarnation is pointless with this afterlife schema. what could you possibly learn by going back down again and have the whole mess to deal with and even new messes you didn't have before? how could you ever make any real progress? You could make far more spiritual progress having your one earthly life as a foundation and then progress spiritually upward from there.

You might consider acquiring a book called; " The Synchronicity Key" by David Wilcock.

Simply begin at Chapter 8, entitled: "Mapping the Afterlife". I believe it will answer many of your questions from above. If you like what you read, then digress back to chapters 6 & 7 on the subjects of Karma & Reincarnation. These three chapters alone will fill in many of the gaps you are missing in your above comments with regard to the movie and its gaps. Even better, start on chapter 1 and read the whole book.

This being said, chapter 8 is an excellent reflection of this movie with significantly more detail from the beginning of one's entrance into the inner 3D realm (astral plane) to one's exit with the next reincarnation.

The ASTRAL CITY (as good a name as any) depicted in this movie is not Heaven as we Christians perceive the state of Heaven. The Astral City is the inner 3D realm souls inhabit after death of the Mind/Body/Spirit Complex (in Law of One terms). We occupy Space/Time in the 3rd density physical realm. Upon death of the physical/chemical body we transition to 3rd density Time/Space (spirit realm) occupied by our light body, which may actually have a sense of physical reality, such as touch and feel, as well. The dialog of the movie actually refers to this in the earlier scenes when they say; "...this is not the heaven you expected...".

This movie refers to the "mother" occupying a higher realm. Again, in Law of One terms, this mother entity occupies what we Christians more closely perceive as Heaven. I would assume that "mother" has transitioned, graduated, ascended, been harvested (choose your terminology) into the next 4th Density realm. The 4th Density realm of Love & Compassion is closer to our human perception of Heaven. It could also be that, in the movie, she exists on a higher realm of the Astral Plane (if not 4th density) as well.

The Law of One states that Jesus was a high level, very accomplished, 4th density being when he accepted the incarnation of Jesus (Jehoshua). After he penetrated intelligent infinity (the Veil) in human form and completed his mission with the Ascension in the Light, he later transitioned past the boundary of the next density and now occupies a 5th Density existence. You might say, an even higher level of Heaven. Fifth density is the density of wisdom, in Law of One terms.

The doctor's realization (in the movie) that he had thrown his life away was not based on his drinks and cigars after work. Listen to the dialogue more carefully and you will see that it was the revelation that he did not accomplish his life goals for the physical incarnation just experienced. Essentially he became mired in ego, negative emotions, indulgences as well as lack of interaction with his earthly family. These things had little to do with spiritual evolution. These were his great regrets and pain. He gleened this through his memories and conversations with his counselor; "I wasted my life".

Reincarnation allows the soul another chance to make it all right. The opportunity to stop the spinning wheels of karma, through the Law of Forgiveness, and graduate to 4th density; the next level of soul evolution.

Not sure I agree with all the portrayals of the life after death experience but there is no mistaking the major theme of the movie. Now, how we choose to apply it is where the lessons come in. In order to watch it from other countries, you have to use a service called VPN (Virtual Private Network) it by pass your country filter and created an IP in the united states. So to the internet it's as you're from the U.S. normally this service allow you to set your IP anywhere in the world which bypass filters and blockage. Just google VPN.
