Landscape as Muse: The Beaver with Mary Anne Barkhouse (2011)
Sculpture installation artist Anne Barkhouse is our guide as we explore beaver ponds. After getting to know them since childhood, she chose the beaver as her subject for her work. As we view her early works she explains her use of animals and how the lifecycles of the land and animals are connected. In her studio, as she completes a sculpture, she explains her lineage and how it has influenced her works.
Next, we are off to the river to get up close and personal with beaver lodges and dams. As we view these constructions, she explains the elements she tries to incorporate into her art. Then we return to her workspace and watch as she finishes a beaver sculpture and shares her views on technique and media. We finally see the completed sculpture at its unveiling.
