Breath of the Gods (2012)

Only available in Canada, United States

Modern yoga, that is, the form practiced daily by tens of millions of people around the world, goes back directly to the god Shiva according to Indian tradition. At the same time, however, modern yoga originated in the early 20th century – a creation of Indian savant T. Krishnamacharya (1888-1989). That story is far less known.

Krishnamacharya's life and teachings are seen through the eyes of the director Jan Schmidt-Garre on his search for authentic yoga. His journey leads him from the legendary students and relatives of Krishnamacharya's to the source of modern yoga, at the palace of the Maharaja of Mysore. From Pattabhi Jois, Jan learns the Sun salutation, from Iyengar the King of Asanas, the headstand, and finally Sribhashyam reveals to him his father's secret Life Saving Yoga Session.

Im sorry but why is this not available in Europe?

robvwalker, posted on July 26, 2016

I have never seen this black and white film before of the demonstration in front of the Maharaja and his retinue . Was this "staged" or was it really historical footage? The clarity was much greater than the often-seen blurry demonstrations of Krishnamacharyia and family. Impressive and sensitive movie.

Does anyone know the reason we only get limited content outside US? Probably won't continue with subscription. Pity as there was things I was really interested in. I'll see how the month goes and if it's value for money.

Hi guys, all four films you recommend at the first page are not available in Europe. Very disappointing! There's probably a very good reason for that, but why showing us? I thought you're an international yoga site... Is this going to change?

Why can't I view this in the uk?

Claridee40, posted on December 26, 2014

The history, archives, interviews and settings were fascinating. Well done and thank you!

Just watched this film for the second time. I loved it. It is a beautiful film, and I and am grateful for the yoga history I have learned from it.

I feeling excluded, not being able to view these films as someone living in the UK ( except for Sadhana) because I would very much like to watch the others too. Do UK members pay less for their membership?

It's a pity that I can't see this picture in Argentina! I pay for the service like others....

coyogini, posted on December 13, 2014

a real pity...most of the movies can't be watched outside US/CAN...I live in Switzerland.
Totally agree....i got the membership to access a platform of knowledge..we should get same access as US/CAN memberships as we pay the same. Gaiam/MYO would be great to have feedback on this. merci!

Same for me in UK. Can't watch them either :-(

It's alright. It seems somehow incomplete, as there's a lot I was hoping to learn that didn't happen. Also, on my set-up, the sound mix was pretty awful, with the piano parts frequently drowning out the character's voices.

I like the content and the meditative style...such as watching the sunset. I even feel more relaxed after watching, and also very inspired to practice more, and with even more intention.
