Byron Katie: Master Class with Interview (2011)

Available worldwide

After suffering through more than a decade of depression, Byron Katie woke up one morning, opened her eyes, and discovered that all of her problems came from believing her thoughts. She understood that when she believed her thoughts, she suffered, but when she was free from her thoughts she could experience the world directly and her suffering disappeared. In this intimate interview, Byron reveals the stories from her own life that led her to create The Work and the four simple questions and three “turnarounds” that can become a mantra to opening your heart and realizing your true nature of love. Lisa Garr, creator of radio’s The Aware Show, interviews Byron Katie for Gaiam Portraits of Inspiring Lives. Please take a moment to download the Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet and get ready to engage The Work offered in this extraordinarily life-changing program.

I'm concerned about this teaching, because it can encourage people to stay in negative environments and relationships. Yes, you ABSOLUTELY can know if someone doesn't respect you. You can ABSOLUTELY know that someone doesn't love you. They prove this to you by their actions. Please remember that your environment and the relationships around you are important. They can and do shape you, so choose them wisely. If you're in a verbally, emotional, physical or mentally abusive relationship, please get out, and get help.

Is this absolutely true for you? Whose life are you in right now?

She reminds me of all the good things about my mother.

She is saying come from 'compassion' the spiritual body or heart not 'sympathy' the root or 'empathy' the belly.
I wrote a blog about it called Chakras 101.

THANK YOU Lisa for bringing Bryon Katie to GAIAM TV. I deeply appreciate guests like Bryon Katie who embody emotional maturity, clear wisdom, and who bring straight talk to the table. I appreciate getting right to the core of illusive beliefs, identifying them and experiencing the shift thereof. I appreciate the inquiry that Byron invites us to take, like Eckhart Tolle and Adyashanti does as well. I notice they all embody fearless love and acceptance....operating in reality that inquiry and stillness reveals.

Amazing class. So insightful, powerful. An illumined woman (Byron Katie), and so grateful she brought "The Work" into the world to lessen suffering born from her own path. Thanks so much for a wonderful class that was incredibly useful. And thank you Lisa for your honesty in this interview, and your insights.

I was reminded of Eckhart Toole's books. Her tools seem simple and straightforward. I am at a time in my life where I want to focus on my inner self and I feel this information will be helpful.

After about 50 years of living with what was programmed in me as a child due to disrespect and humiliation from an older sister, I finally said, "you just cant hurt me anymore, I'm completely done." The concerning part is that she doesn't get it and wont due to stuck in some hard core religious dogma. Too bad. It took so many years of feeling literally 'worthless' as Byron explains, but the shift seems to be permanent in that one (me) never wants to go back to that low life way of feeling that my Sister wanted me to be. And, Yes, this is true on her level, but on the Truth level it is not true. My question to ponder is, when you have family or other loved ones that continue with their 'monkey mind' approach, and you recognize it, how do you deal with them, other than, Bless Them? Even if you give them the GodZillienth chance, there is no shift in them. Its hard to expose yourself to their ongoing battle trying to drag you back and you end up peacefully walking away, time after time.

Byron gives us the tools to use to make life an exciting journey full of challenges rather than playing out the victim role which so many of us get stuck in before we come to realise how powerful we really are. If we could just silence the chattering monkies!

What she's really talking about is the conflict between ego and spirit. It's interesting she compared the mind to a "chattering monkey", Buddha said our mind is like a tree full of chattering monkeys. The first thing to do is to eliminate all the chatter- it can be a challanging thing to do! The spirit only wants to give. The ego only wants to take. They're both in all of us.

I have been doing The Work for a few years and this is a great overview for anyone interested. I also got a lot of new insights. Beautiful

The Work is a very valuable tool. This is a great way to get a better understanding through her telling of her story and walking through a session with her class. Thanks!!!
