Thinking Allowed: Circles of Care (Ann Cason) (2001)
Host Jeffrey Mishlove talks with Ann Cason about her book, Circles of Care, which describes the creation of a network or team of individuals who work with the elderly and can handle the needs of the elderly over time. This team, which she also calls a Circle of Care, comprises people who are not members of the family, but who work with the family to create an extended-family approach to caring for an individual.
Cason discusses the process of aging and the difficult stages that the elderly pass through while accepting their own changing physical and mental state. Cason believes that whatever a person is manifesting, the key to being a good caregiver is the ability to be present, and that there is something profoundly human about just being there for another person without judgment, despite the circumstances.
