this was amazing. I am going to change my sleep schedule to be able to incorporate this routine every morning. I do have a question : modern science is telling us to sleep 8 hours a night, which doesnt leave much room for morning rituals. How much sleep is really required? I would like to hear from the yoga community and Doug on this question. Namaste and a huge "merci" to Doug for the inspiration that you play in my life.

Greetings L Willard,

Thank you for your kind words and support - I am very happy to know you enjoyed my morning ritual :)

As for sleep - it is true Studies have shown that most people will do much better in the long run with 7 - 8 hours of sleep on the average basis.
You have to see the larger picture - our modern society is (for the most part) over-stimulated with coffee, processed sugary foods, junk food and embedded within a fast paced electronic existence - where many view sleep as an annoying speed bump.

I have personally gotten by with 6 hours a night for a month at a time, out of necessity - when confronted with a heavy work load - but I was also living on lots of fresh squeezed green juice, daily hiking and breathing lots of fresh air in my yoga practice. I have found (for me) 7 hours of sleep, or more works best in the long run.

Time management - is the best solution - and living a natural life - being aware if everything you drink, eat, breath and think - as this becomes your destiny.

Blessings, Doug

Thank you Doug, this was quite a challenge for me after taking a couple years off power yoga for health reasons. I'm reminded how strong I was and loved the modifications you offered as I begin to build strength again. Loved the spiritual aspect as well and I find a stronger practice calms my mind more. Namaste

Hi FroxyRoxy,

Thank you for your kind words and I am very happy to know you found my video helpful - on you return to greater practice.
Life is always changing and sometimes quite challenging - and yet - your yoga as a good friend - who is willing to help out - whenever you are in need.

As you know - It is not all-about the power, or showing off a new pose - it is as you mentioned - the clarity, the peace, awareness and good health - as reward.

Blessings, Doug

I found this video to go a little too fast for my practice, and it rushed me through it. I did enjoy Doug's philosophy and understanding of yoga throughout the video. I will try another video in the future!

This wasn't my favorite of Doug's classes. The beginning was kind of abrupt, and the sun salutations really fast. I did appreciate all the modifications and variations and the challenge of the balance poses.

Hi Lorax,

Thank you for being honest and giving me constructive advice, this is how we all learn to grow and improve. It is also good to know you found the modifications to be helpful in our practice - hope you enjoy your day. !!! Blessings, Doug

Thank you Doug! I was not able to do some of the poses (jumping, standing on my head...) but it was great just sitting and watching you some of the times. Really nice to send energy to three people and accomplishing three things for today. Thanks again and have a great day!!

dougswenson, posted on December 13, 2015

Hi BenetMaria,

Thank you for your comments and for watching the video. it is good you know your limitations - which will avoid any discomfort or injury.
The headstand can be quite challenging. In the Future - to modify a headstand - just do a downward facing dog and it is never necessary to jump - you can simply walk, or step slowly. Wishing you a wonderful hollday - Blessings, Doug Swenson

Thank you for that adventure to poses I have never been shown. I attempted and felt frustration, accomplishment and gratitude. I almost turned video off thinking I would find one that was more exactly suited to my elementary and regression from my earlier experience. I stayed with you, modified when ever (nearly always) needed. I feel a respect for my body that I didn't before starting this morning. Lovely connecting today!

Hi Anna,

Thank you for your comments - Everyone is different and unique and it is best to find a practice which best suits our individual needs. Although with that said, I thank you for sticking with me, giving this format a try and seeing it through - then finding a sense of accomplishment. I hope you have a lovely day :) Blessings, Doug

I do enjoy Doug's classes and this was a sweet, short morning class. I don't think it is quite an advanced level class as there were many beginner modifications and it was quite light. Thanks so much Doug!

dougswenson, posted on December 12, 2015
