DMT: The Spirit Molecule (2010)

Only available in Canada, United States

Hosted by Joe Rogan, The Spirit Molecule investigates dimethyltryptamine (DMT), a naturally occurring psychoactive compound, which exists in humans, and potentially every living organism. Utilizing Dr. Rick Strassman's government-sanctioned, human DMT research as the documentary’s backbone, the study’s potential impact and its inconceivable revelations emerge.

A closer examination of DMT’s effects through two traditionally opposed concepts, science and spirituality, The Spirit Molecule unravels the connections between cutting-edge neuroscience, quantum mechanics and human spirituality. The Spirit Molecule, a simple molecule with enormous implications. The subtle combination of science, spirituality, and philosophy results in an abundance of incredible ideas and theories that could alter the way we understand the nature of reality and our relationship to it.

Joe Rogan, Joel Bakst, Rick Strassman MD, Dennis McKenna, Graham Hancock, Douglas Rushkoff, Daniel Pinchbeck, Erik Davis

This is a fantastic and very inspirational film. As I was viewing, the thought came to me that talk of the pineal gland is the same thing as our third eye and our development of the sixth sense. What our whole basis of evolving as a human being can be expanded by simply opening our third eye. When I watched the beautiful colors and shapes developing, I recalled seeing at times something similar coming from my being like smoke.
A beautiful film! Thank you

There's no sound! It's not my computer because Netflix works just fine and iTunes. It's this kind of problem that caused me to cancel my last subscription. Love the content, but if it's not available due to technical difficulties the subscription is pretty much useless.

It appears to me this is proof of spiritual reality. This is the destiny we are looking for. I believe that meditation is a spiritual science and this is the goal. I am finding the ability to enter this world that DMT is revealing is an important destiny that we all should aquire .

I was intrigued by the subject matter. That is why I joint Gaiam TV. I was under the impression that this documentary
can be watched on my laptop. Apparently not. I'm disappointed.

You should be able to watch it on your laptop! I am forwarding your issue to our customer service so they can troubleshoot the problem with you. Thank you, Michal @ Gaiam TV

Not very happy that some films are not available outside USA and Canada.
Is it possible to change this unfortunate situation soon. I really want to watch this film and the others not available for me. I think it is fair since we pay same money as the people living in the US and Canada. Thank you.

The documentary assumes that the viewer equates the experiences of the subjects/volunteers with what others have called spiritual experiences. Perhaps the book addresses this equation, but it is missing here. Also missing is the significance of these experiences. One subject/volunteer claims that they will cure drug and alcohol abuse; another states that it is a entry into another level of reality. What does the research team believe that the experiences demonstrate?

This documentary suffers greatly from a lack of diverse participants – racially/ethnically and from various spiritual traditions. The approach and perspective is almost entirely western. From ancient times, cultures have engaged in spiritual practices to experience other dimensions/densities without drugs. Other cultures have used naturally occurring hallucinatory substances for thousands of years, also as part of spiritual practices. I appreciated the attention to scientific research, but I found the western arrogance running through the film to be troubling, and quite frankly, spiritually immature.

the reason "they" allow alcohol is to dull the senses ~ let us remember from where we came! We are natural persons in a world contrived ~ we are energetic beings with a purpose ... REMEMBER!!!

I appreciated this well-made film on an important and timely topic. I do wish the volunteers had spoken more about how they were changed and their lives were changed by their experience of DMT many years earlier. I also would love to have heard more about the experiences of people receiving Ayahuasca in ceremony. Maybe there will be a part 2? : )
