Book Tours: Eating Well for Optimum Health (Dr. Andrew Weil) – Part 1: Diet Dangers (2000)
Join Dr. Andrew Weil, author of Eating Well for Optimum Health, in a discussion of the values and dangers of the modern American diet. Of the thousands of books on diet and nutrition out there, what works?
Short term dietary solutions can often be detrimental to the body over the long term. The high amount of protein consumed when on the Atkins diet, for example, puts tremendous strain on the liver and kidneys over the long term. Carbohydrate sensitivity should be addressed by identifying the different types and how they work for you, since carbohydrates themselves are not the enemy. Portion size and how often you eat are just as important as what you eat.
And of course, nothing beats walking after a meal. The real key to healthy balanced nutrition is educating yourself about foods, how your body processes the foods you consume, and making informed choices about what is best for your lifestyle.
