Exploration of Existence

Available worldwide

This Yin Yoga class with Bernie Clark is focused on the Hips and Spine physically but will also offer an investigation of the Three Characteristics of Existence found in the Buddha’s teachings. As we linger in the physical practice we can also explore the concepts of dukkha, impermanence and no-self.

Contraindications: Students with lower back disorders should check with their doctors to make sure that they will be able to do flexion, twists and extension of the spine. Students with hip replacements should make sure that they do not adduct the legs or internally rotate the hips (avoid the Twisted Roots pose).

Thank you so much for this yin lesson ! I've been doing and teaching hatha for few years, but yin is steel new for me. I feel I'm able to let go stress more easily with yin and that my body let go a lot of old memories as well. Hope you'll understand my English! I speak french!

@gymnast1 I hope you continue to find the stillness enjoyable. Perhaps you will find it arising even at times when you are not practicing yoga!

jmadden7171, posted on January 19, 2014

Thank you Bernie. I am going to work on stillness and I am beginning to love the way I feel after yin yoga. I am doing your hip video tomorrow and today I did the four quadrants of the leg...thank you..!

bernieclark, posted on January 12, 2014

@gymnast1You are not alone: many people find shavasana a big challenge. People tend to do what they like, and not what they need. If you feel challenged by stillness, there may be a lesson for you there! I hope you continue to work both the yin and yang aspects of your practice. Good luck!

wow Bernie I felt like I needed to try yin yoga b/c I needed deeper stretching and wow it was more challenging than I expected but very peaceful at the end. I will continue to try and work on allowing myself to be still...I actually find shavasana my most difficult pose...not physically but mentally. Thanks

Every time I have participated in Bernie's classes, I am submerged in the feeling that I am doing something very good for myself on multiple levels. Thank you Bernie, for your wisdom in helping me heal physically and beyond!

Fantastic sequence of yin poses with a simple explanation of this yoga style at the beginning. Then, Bernie shares fundamental teachings from the Buddha Dharma through story: Dukkha "dissatisfactory-ness", Annica: "impermanence", and Annata: "dependent origination" or "no self". He keeps the practice light with gentle jokes and provides steady guidance through the long holds of postures. Loved it.

I love all Bernie's teachings and this website and the variety it offers. Lately there seems to be a lot of longer classes which are excellent, however, I do hope you continue shorter class offerings (less than 60mins) and more guided meditations.
Thank you.
