One with Nature: Food Gatherer’s Paradise (2011)
What's in a meal? It's more than you think. The food of Haida Gwaii tells a story of the food-gatherers of an island paradise that is so abundant that it enabled a sophisticated civilization to flourish. It also tells the story of an ancient way of life that is inter-connected with the island eco-system and how the gatherers almost lost it all. For thousands of years, the Haida people have enjoyed this diverse, unique eco-system with little outside interference.
In this secluded island paradise, ties binding the generations are reflected in every facet of life. With no children to teach, preparing would have little point. Just as gathering food would be senseless if there were no children to feed. Despite the challenges, elders rejoice that another generation of Haida will live to see the food gatherer's paradise.
