Laura Ticciati, author of Genetically Engineered Foods, and John Hagelin, chairman of the Natural Law Party, discuss the scary trend towards the influx of Genetically Modified Food into our daily diets. The issue addressed is whether there is a need for Genetically Modified food in order to feed the population, or is it merely a problem with food distribution that leaves many hungry?
Ticciati argues that it is merely a problem with food distribution, that there is plenty of food to go around. Ticciati also addresses the fact that a large percent of the population is unaware of the ways in which the DNA of our food has been tampered with, and advocates that food buyers should demand GMO labeling on food that has been tampered with.
Hagelin argues that messing with the Evolution of food, by changing its DNA, is a slippery slope, for once an organism has been modified it is forever changed. Ticciati recommends that the only way to know for sure that your food has not been tampered with is to only buy food that is labeled Organic.
