The Global Brain (1983)

Available worldwide

The Global Brain explores the theory that the Earth is a self-regulating living organism and asks what function humanity might have for this planetary being. It suggests that we stand on the threshold of a major leap in evolution, as significant as the emergence of life itself, and the essence of this leap is inner spiritual development. Moreover, it is only through such a shift in consciousness that we will be able to manage successfully the global crisis now facing us.

Peter Russell integrates Eastern and Western understandings of the mind, exploring their relevance to the world today and to humanity’s future.

It felt great to have someone narrate what I, and many others, have basically felt for so very long.

All people are one, everyone is just different fragments of ourselves.

The soundtrack is MUCH TOO LOUD!! I am barely able to discern the narration from the warbling, distracting background noise. HORRIBLE!!!

Humanity as a "cancer" that needs to be controlled? Critical thinkers need to listen to this very carefully.

Crisis - The opportunity for something new to emerge. Yes, it is happening and on a larger scale, faster. Thank you for the movie and thanks for the comments. Peace

This was for me, a very reminiscent and timely reminder of many of the ideas and concepts to which I was first introduced in what has come to be known as the '60s here in the US. It was a tumultuous time, and a "re-birthing" of a consciousness thought to be lost from the landscape of history. It threatened the status quot so much, that in order to protect the system they had worked so long and hard at instilling and maintaining...that "they" felt it necessary to take many drastic measures in the attempt to scrub this "re-birthing of the consciousness of Unity" from the human psyche. The Earth, and all organisms upon it are all "one" and as such interdependent. Virtually all of man's ills stem from the systemic thought of isolation and separateness. Because of this errant thinking, mankind looks at each other and indeed the very planet upon which we all rely as something to be preyed be used for our own perceived needs and wants. If any of my fellow man suffers...then I suffer. If our planetary home suffers in any way...then we all suffer. We are One...whether we realize it or not...Not only the Earth, but all of the Cosmos is alive...and dances the dance of Creation and Unity...It only awaits our re-awakening to that knowledge and responsibility. We have been out of step, and it is time for us to return to the dance...Namaste

The part about our cities resembling cancerous cells was fascinating. What a great opportunity we have to transform the way we live.

This is Truly a Great discourse on the next step of Evolution... and as each of us adopts the thought of how wonderful it would be or says "I hope that it is true"...these thoughts and words move it forward...helping it to move even talk about it...believe in it, no matter how hopeless it seems...for this is our future...this is the next evolutionary step for humankind....

I had real trouble watching till the end as the music was so loud and intrusive. But I enjoyed the information.

I agree with your critique completely. Terrible soundtrack. Most annoying and distracting. Narrator was completely overwhelmed by the warbling noise.
