Thinking Allowed: Green Psychology (Ralph Metzner) – Part 2 (2000)
Can we attain a feeling of connectedness with nature? Jeffrey Mishlove and host Ralph Metzner continue their conversation about our relationship with nature.
Metzner explains that in transforming our relationship with the Earth, we learn humility. Following nature puts us in a humble position.
They discuss the idea of “pests.” Metzner shares an example of a time when ants were invading his kitchen. He stopped to consciously consider what they were doing: finding food. He was able to relate to them, so he gave them a cookie and asked them to leave. He found that through his change of consciousness and new found respect, they responded. Metzner explains that we must change our entire vision of life and our relationship with the planet.
