Hinging at the Kidneys Smart Yoga Tip

Available worldwide

Jesse Enright teaches us that without proper alignment, the mid-lower back (where the kidneys are located and the mid spine meets the lower or lumbar spine), the vertebrae and discs can easily become compressed when we move without awareness. In this mini workshop we learn key points in maintaining the health and integrity of this important area of the body.

I appreciate how you explain the biomechanical functions of our body. For me, phrases like "open/shine your heart" are lyrical, but not very descriptive

Thanks for pointing that out - I often had the feeling that "opening my heart" as suggested by teachers didn t feel quite right for my body, even in asanas like downward dog I had the impression that I couldn t breath in an optimal way. Now when I stabilize that area of the spine, I feels so much more stronger and my breath may flow far more relaxed. Plus: this was also a great hint for my singing classes because the activation perfectly supports the apoggio for me.

Really helpful! As I lifted my arms, it became clear that I was indeed, hinging into the spine. I had no idea! Now, I'm aware and can correct. Thank you.
