I AM (2011)

Only available in Canada, United States

The documentary I AM is the story of a man who had it all until something happened to make him realize he might have it all…wrong. After a near-death experience, Hollywood film director Tom Shadyac (Ace Ventura) decided to spark a conversation around two rarely asked questions: what’s wrong with our world and what can we do about it?

And so Shadyac traveled the globe interviewing today’s greatest thinkers. And while he may have been filming a documentary, his film reveals a plot twist straight out of a blockbuster movie: scientific proof that we are all connected. By the final scene, it’s clear that while he started out asking what’s wrong with our world, he ended up discovering what’s right with it.

This film is a Spiritual Cinema Circle selection

Tom Shadyac, Ray Anderson, Marc Ian Barasch, Coleman Barks, Noam Chomsky, Desmond Tutu, Howard Zinn, Lynne McTaggart

This should be given time on a national geographic, discovery ,and or primetime station, more than a state of the union address because i believe it is more important than what a state of a country is, its a state of our world and how do we fix it for ALL. thanks for this my gratitude for this way of understanding is immense, from my part, in the magnetic fields of love, peace and light to all. Great work, Tom. My only complaint is that it wasn't longer. And just for the record I was always a big fan of Ace Ventura and Liar Liar. I think you are on a much more rewarding path now though.

How inspiring to see this passing along of the most crucial lesson of being ONE with all, and inspiring us to rest in that very achievable belief system that everyone matters. Incredible film, Namaste,

This was wonderfully done. Very heart-felt. Thanks so much for making this film. I could feel the heart expansion as I was watching the film - so it was very neat to see that this phenomenon was discussed (heart and vagus nerve phenom). So beautiful.

Tears of joy fill my eyes. This film is beautifully done. I could watch this a million times. Just wanted to express my gratitude with these tiny words here for now. But here is my promise to you all. My focus will be loving actions for others in some way for all my days to come. I love you all so much. Without you all, none of this could be possible. Thank you.

I have an MTBI and in the worst of times I didnt feel like I was dying ..lost sense ofwho I was..that was hard. and still have double vision in both eyes.. and cognitive reduction..there is hope .. lots of things help MTBI post concussion syndrome..

This movie changed my life. I immediately went and bought lunch for two homeless people I knew I would see & will keep cash & lunch in my car for this purpose & will work on seeing what else I can do about this. I am going through my clothes. Why do I need so many? I am working on being more compassionate with everyone. Thank you so much.

shivayogi1088, posted on September 14, 2014

If the words in this movie ring true, why is Gaiam charging people to hear, view and share wisdom? Can you patent wisdom?

jojo13, posted on November 26, 2015

Do you work for free?

What surprises me is that all this amazing information that inspires me and fills my heart with love and hope costs me only $10 a month.

Desertflower, posted on October 19, 2014

We do not live in the perfect world you describe where money is not needed. They have yoga instructors, for instance, who must, as you, pay bills and feed their children. They have other employees I am sure that must do the same. And the director of the video and those that worked to put it together also have jobs. We own a business . We cannot afford to give our products away. The same is true for many spiritual leaders. It is not saying do not work or pay your bills. It is saying to wake up and become more connected to others and the world and become more compassionate. If you ( meaning any of us) do this, you will change who you are & your actions can in a ripple affect the world. If everyone did this... the world would change. Namaste Teresa

I saw the below posted on facebook and more recently watched the movie. What's wrong with the world? has been on humanity's mind for some time.

'The title of Chesteron’s 1910 collection of essays was inspired by a title given to him two years earlier by The Times newspaper, which had asked a number of authors to write on the topic: “What’s wrong with the world?”. Chesterton’s answer at that time was the shortest of those submitted - he simply wrote: “Dear Sirs, I am. Sincerely yours, G.K. Chesterton”. In this collection he gives a fuller treatment of the question, with his characteristic conservative wit. (Summary by Wikipedia and Carl Manchester)'

As Anne Morrow Lindbergh quotes in her book, "Gift From The Sea" mu mother used to envoutage me not to succumb entirely to defeat, and to be willing to have a sporting fencing match, or a good chess game... she would saay, "Erica it takes courage to remain vulnerable, to quote A>M>L>", mommy would say...I say to you, that took and takes an immence amount of courage and the outcome is the goal, to have courage to remain vulnerable...couer is geart in French...the root of the word and the compliment.

Thank you! What a wonderful film. Honest about what is wrong, but determined to leave us with the 'feel good' of what is right and the power we all have every day with every little action. From the individual to the global and back again. Beautiful portrayal of mental illness - to have so much and share so little. Great work.

A wonderful documentary connecting all the dots. More stuff does not make you happy. Connecting, and helping people, walking in nature, eating clean, and using your tools that only you have to make a difference in other peoples lives. It does not have to be big, it can be a conversation at the dry cleaner. We are here to connect and learn from each other.
Thank you for making such a great inspirational film.
