I AM (2011)

Only available in Canada, United States

The documentary I AM is the story of a man who had it all until something happened to make him realize he might have it all…wrong. After a near-death experience, Hollywood film director Tom Shadyac (Ace Ventura) decided to spark a conversation around two rarely asked questions: what’s wrong with our world and what can we do about it?

And so Shadyac traveled the globe interviewing today’s greatest thinkers. And while he may have been filming a documentary, his film reveals a plot twist straight out of a blockbuster movie: scientific proof that we are all connected. By the final scene, it’s clear that while he started out asking what’s wrong with our world, he ended up discovering what’s right with it.

This film is a Spiritual Cinema Circle selection

Tom Shadyac, Ray Anderson, Marc Ian Barasch, Coleman Barks, Noam Chomsky, Desmond Tutu, Howard Zinn, Lynne McTaggart

Dear Gaiam,

I would LOVE to assist in this little faux pas...I just watched the movie and realized how much the power of love works! As a business woman with experience and understanding of good customer service, I thought it might be a good time to throw my hat in the ring for a job, since I've been seeking work since January! The message of this documentary is SO important, however; for all those who are having technical difficulties, this movie can ALSO be viewed on youtube. Please forgive us as we work to remind us that change can be slow!

For all other readers, I am recommending this movie to my family for our next Bible study, and sharing it with friends. The Bible has become more true and the power of LOVE (GOD) really came forth here...the fact that science confirms it is icing on the cake!

Hi there same problem here! We have informed Gaiam of the same issue many times, but no one takes responsibility to improve the situation. We believe we should come as a group around the world to make this clear to them, so that they make all movies available. Customer service is close to non-existing, or null! Some movies cannot be watched even within the United States!
It is not fair for people who travel for extended amounts of time away from the States either. Gaiam subscriptions are being canceled everyday!

I was so depressed today based on the worldly events, feeling so helpless. I started watching I AM and 3/4 thru it I couldn't control my tears. I had a huge emotional release of a lifetime of not understanding....now I totally get it. Now I know what my mission will be when everything comes to a head for the people not awake....to help them....for us all to come together with compassion and love ...... VERY POWERFUL.

For the last 21 years I have been on the radio, making no money but going every Saturday religiously to the station with the mission of spotlighting inspiring people and providing a format for them to tell just one more person what is good in the world, how to live happier in the world and how to change the world. I have had some well known people, famous people and now have built a reputation that people ask to be on my program. I consider that success. However..some days when I get human and selfish, I lament that I am not famous that I live sometimes check to check, and have not made a cent from doing this but then I think that if once every week when my program is on I can change one person's life I have done my part. It is my passion and I am good at it. The reason I love this movie is that I was validated in what I do because sometimes when I am being human and I focus on my lack of notoriety and money, I just need to know that what I've done and continue to do matters. This movie will be my elixir many days and years to come. It shows us that when we do what we love, when we promote a positive future, and most when we live from the heart we will be happy...Who's happy?...I AM. Thank you.

willax1, posted on November 10, 2013

Thanks for sharing. Although I've not heard of you or your radio show, I admire your dedication and passion. I, too, believe that when we do what we love and live from our heart center we are happy and that we can make miracles and promote a positive, life affirming future.

As in so many things in life, timing is everything. The timing for me to see this film was perfect. Thank you Tom Shadyac for caring and seeing the need. Carry on… Marci

This evening I was watching this movie and texted my daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren 12 and 8 in Costa Rica to sign up and watch "I AM". At that moment they were watching it, all snuggled in bed together. Synchronicity happened. We were watching the same part as well. Yes we are connected...

The problem with the world lies not with others but with me. I must approach each person with empathy and a desire to understand, especially if the individual threatens harm. I think this documentary does a good job making the point that cooperation is the answer, in the long run, to our current violent state of human affairs. We each are an integral part of each other and the universe and we must develop an "I and We" attitude and shun the "Us versus Them".

What an inspiring and moving film! I absolutely loved it and hope and pray that we can make these types of movies a part of our school curriculum so that our youth can learn these concepts early on in life. That is how we can truly change the world!

If you want something to chew on with substance and heart.... something beyond what any scientist could ever explain, this is IT. Love it. Watch it with it with a friend, family member, and the whole family for a connective discussion afterwards.!

This truly uplifted me after the tragic events in Newton, CT. The beautiful and innocent lives that have been lost are tragic and heartbreaking. I know there is no way to make complete sense of it all, but I feel there is a lack of LOVE and connectedness in our country. We are so broken and I think we all just gave each other a hug and let people know we are there, things could change. I vow to make a difference in how interact with people.
