My Reincarnation (2012)

Only available in Canada, United States

Filmed over twenty years by acclaimed documentarian Jennifer Fox (Flying: Confessions of a Free Woman), My Reincarnation chronicles the epic story of the high Tibetan Buddhist Master Chögyal Namkhai Norbu and his western-born son Yeshi.

The film follows Namkhai Norbu's rise to greatness as a Buddhist teacher in the West, while Yeshi, recognized at birth as the reincarnation of a famous spiritual master, breaks away from his father’s tradition to embrace the modern world. Can the father convince his son to keep the family's threatened spiritual legacy alive?

Never before has a high Tibetan Master allowed such complete access to his private life and it is doubtful that another ever will. With her signature intimate entry to both family and icons including the Dalai Lama, Fox expertly distills a decades-long drama into a universal story about love, transformation and destiny.

Such a wonderful film. My dear mother-in-law, passed this summer at 98 yrs., spent half the year in her 60' & 70's living with families in Nepal. She was there for the trekking but was drawn to and very close to the spirituality and loving spirit of the people. We are the custodians of the ancient small treasures gifted to her each year - like many in use for this film. She waited 20 yrs. for Mustang province to be opened so she could go there - she felt very drawn. If anyone seeing this plans a trip to Tibet or Nepal, might I request that you transport a small vial of her ashes? Perhaps reply to this w/contact info? I will see it in my profile info here on gaia.
This film is a treasure! Thanks so much to all the dedicated folks involved with it over the years.

A very rich film. Captured the truth of our desire to be led from without, when the greatest teacher is within. I wept when Yeshi went to Tibet and the people deified him after hanging on for so long without a teacher. A very moving story of father and son, depicting the all too often chasm between the two. Regardless of their earthly relationship, they did have the ever-present holy teachings which eventually healed them. When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.....

Wonderful! I enjoyed it on so many levels. It was honest and real. This was a fascinating journey into modern Tibetan Buddhism, and the unique challenges and situations that confront it. Most of all, it was very human.

Beautiful! This story is well told by the lives lived before the honest eye of the camera. I truly enjoyed this presentation and the story it unfolded.
