One Track Heart (2012)

Available worldwide

In 1970, a young musician named Jeffrey Kagel walked away from the American dream of rock ’n’ roll stardom—turning down the lead singer slot in the band that would become Blue Oyster Cult. He sold all his possessions and moved from the suburbs of New York to the foothills of the Himalayas in search of happiness and a little-known saint named Neem Karoli Baba (or Maharajji).

One Track Heart: The Story of Krishna Das follows Kagel’s journey to India and back, his struggles with depression and drug abuse, and his eventual emergence as Krishna Das — the world-renowned spiritual teacher, chant master and Grammy-nominated recording artist.

Featuring interviews with Be Here Now author and spiritual guru Ram Dass, Grammy-winning producer Rick Rubin (Beastie Boys, Metallica, Johnny Cash), New York Times bestselling author Sharon Salzberg, and two-time Pulitzer Prize nominee Daniel Goleman, as well as a score by Dinosaur Jr.’s J Mascis and Devadas, One Track Heart is the inspiring story of how one man’s journey continues to transform countless lives.

Krishna Das, Ram Dass, Sharon Salzberg, Rick Rubin, Daniel Goleman

Sweet, sweet film. I love hearing about their love of their Guru. What they don't tell you is that your Guru is waiting for YOU. Seek your own Guru, maybe here in the US, maybe in India, but dont give up your search until you find him. Then you will have what Krishna Das and Ram Das have, only A custom life made just for you. Namaste.

Lost in a place where few carry the same intense need to follow and sing, I am thankful for the ability of technology to bring you all to me so I don't feel so alone! Thank you for a wonderful story of a man that felt lost, found, then lost again, to find he was right there all along!

Such an inspiring film, so glad I found it! Krishna's and Ram Dass' and all the others' journeys to train with Maharaj-ji are a legacy for us all. Messages have a way to transcend miles and years, to help us in the times we are existing in. To keep this message of universal Love moving forward, in this chaotic 21 st century,Krishna found peace at last, to continue his music authentically. I love listening to him, his voice has that peace in it, it surrounds one.

Why are these titles available only in the US!? This is unacceptable. I'm on the same continent. I will not be subscribing after this trial unless this is resolved . How frustrating.........

Why is watching only possible in the USA? Also, why do I , as a member, have to pay to watch Gaiam TV.
I have tried watching a few times, but get the information that I have to pay first.
Thank you for replying,

Quite painful not to be able to see it outside US

anton.vermunt, posted on September 12, 2014

Very strange and unprofessional to advertise movies to people that live outside the US (like me who lives in Canada), while the movie is "only available in United States".

Nikayoga, posted on September 10, 2014

I signed up especially to watch this film and it is not available outside of the US?? I am wondering already if this was a mistake.

syayogabliss, posted on September 5, 2014

Why is this doco only available in US...really should be so me way of not offering the titles that cannot be accessed to If we cannot access in Australia don't put it on our playlists of things we can !!

This is such a beautiful story of KD's journey and his devotion and gratitude to his Guru...told with gratitude and devotion. There is nothing more moving than this on the spiritual path. His experience is proof of the power of the Siddhas to transform us all. Thank you KD for sharing your love, devotion and gratitude in this way.

I got to experience him live before I knew anything about him or his music ..I was entranced and captivated by the sounds the energy that surrounded me in a soulistic journey

He is as real as you see here and he is just so friggin cool!

I couldn't get past the "VH1 Behind the Music" vibe, and so couldn't continue past the hyper- celebrity style of this program. I felt a deep spiritual dissonance between what the message should have been been (detachment from ego?) and the glorification of ego. And on a topic of Hindu spirituality there were so few native practitioners of the path in (at least in the first 15 min) of the program. appropriation much? much room for growth here as film makers and appropriators of Hinduism. I mean I don't see any Hindu yogis with full length feature programs about their precious journeys. I would respect Krishna Das more if I ran into him on a street in India just being a real Hindu instead of the central role of some VH1 Behind the scenes show

I've been doing Yoga for over 10 years and only in the past few have I really started to learn more about meditation, mantra and this powerful art/way of living/spiritual practice from India. I just attended Bhakti Fest Midwest in Madison, Wisconsin where I had the pleasure to film Krishna Das in an intimate interview and his performance. I was drawn to watch this film and am so glad I did. So grateful for this amazing and devoted man whom I have such a reverence for even more. Such commitment and powerful introspection. Much love. The only source of true happiness comes from inside. The depth of your happiness depends on the amount of suffering it takes to break your heart. A broken heart becomes an open heart and with that true understanding peace and joy fill the longing of being at home !!!

So moving - and so very helpful to discover over and over again, that it is our suffering that turns us on the path to home. We don't have to be afraid or run from suffering, although we might - and that's ok too, as it just brings more suffering.

cassandra.cantrell, posted on January 11, 2014

Beautiful! I'm currently on a personal retreat sorting out my life. 2 weeks ago I watched Jason Becker's documentary which had an amazing impact on me. I brought only 2 books on my retreat from my library which impacted me in my past. One is Letting Go of the Person You Used to be by Lama Surya Das. "wow" is how I'm feeling right now ;-)
