Pink Ribbons, Inc. (2012)

Only available in United States

The ubiquitous pink ribbons of breast cancer philanthropy – and the hand-in-hand marketing of brands and products associated with that philanthropy — permeate our culture, providing assurance that we are engaged in a successful battle against this insidious disease. But the campaign obscures the reality and facts of breast cancer – more and more women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year, and they face the same treatment options they did 40 years ago.

Yet women are also the most influential market group, buying 80 percent of consumer products and making most major household purchasing decisions. So then who really benefits from the pink ribbon campaigns — the cause or the companies? And what if the very companies and products that profit from their association have actually contributed to the problem?

In showing the real story of breast cancer and the lives of those who fight it, Pink Ribbons, Inc., reveals the co-opting of what marketing experts have labeled a "dream cause."

Thank you for making this film. This really needs addressing and has become very critical. The film made a very good point how necessary this is. I have recently learned in San Diego, California, there is the Gerson Institute that has done a lot of work in this area of really curing this disease. They have an excellent film they made all about how they have cured their patients naturally and are against the current healthcare system in this country that claims there is no cure.

It is called us, we the people! We have been lied to, our lives and concerns dismissed and conned into believing 'everything that can be done is being done.' Not so! Any thinking person knows that the food we eat, the water we drink and the air we breathe play a huge part in our health plan. Not to mention Big Pharma. Our bodies are full of pesticides, herbicides, chemicals and poisons that we ingest on a daily basis. Yet, only a miniscule amount is spent on research. Shameful! The millions of well-intentioned women who, walk, run, wear pink, and spend their monies on these products need to demand from our government and Corporate America to address these issues and behave ethically (ha) to protect us from this slaughter. Until that happens there will not be a cure. Prevention is the cure!

The movie was well done and depicted the major disconnect with the women suffering from the disease and the cheeriness and belief in hope of the walkers and runners. My mother died after a 26 year long battle with breast cancer almost 5 years ago. When she was diagnosed in her early 40's, I was terrified that I would suffer the same fate and so I immediately began to make lifestyle changes….daily exercise, eliminating red meat from my diet…and now, fast forward to today, I eat a strictly whole food, plant-based diet based on vegetables, fruits, beans, whole grains and nuts and seeds. How many women are aware that there are foods that actually REDUCE the risk of breast cancer?? Dr. Joel Fuhrman is an outspoken advocate on this topic: Sadly, the medical community does not receive formal training in the area of nutrition, so most women will never get this information. We need to educate ourselves and take back control. There is no magic bullet….we must address prevention to find the cause of this dreadful disease. I have blogged about my own journey here and would welcome feedback: Thank you for making this eye-opening film available.

What a relief to hear others putting words to the frustration I have been feeling for years when I see pink ribbons plastered on products that I would not even use because of the potential cancer causing ingredients in these products.

No pink ribbons for me and I have felt this way for years. Who's in charge here anyway? The pharmaceuticals? The government? We as a people? Big business? Confusion sets in and who do we believe anymore? You want to believe your government will take care of you however who is running our government? Is it big business?... Follow the money and you will have your answers. You will not like what you find. So to find what maybe will prevent cancer we reach out as individuals for information that may or may not help us. We eat organic, take supplements, become vegetarian, experiment with different healing modalities, purify our air and water with different kinds of systems and hope we are on the right track.

For some reason I cannot watch any movie since last Tuesday. Have you experienced any technical difficulties? I sent two emails yesterday but not answers yet... My account is active.

considering the actual FACT that cannabis oil causes cancer cells to commit suicide therefore successfully curing many, many types of cancer, including breast cancer, i would say this documentary is on point. it is branding and making money for the sake of making money with no real focus on the cure because the cure is already here and has been for decades and is literally ignored by the medical community and made illegal by our lovely government. Well, now you know why it is illegal. You can't make money on a cure that everyone can grow in their kitchen! Being lied to by a government in collusion with big pharma and big corp in order to make more profit on the backs of innocent people who trust in a system that is no longer functioning for them but only for the greedy, corrupt people who most humans think are there to help you. they are not. wake up world. the cure is here. no need to wear a friggin' pink ribbon or any other colored ribbon. make the oil yourself and cure yourself. don't leave it up to a doctor or any other human. the truth is here and you can either focus on that and research and cure yourself or you can continue down the path of greed and misery. more of our loved ones will die of this supposed 'incurable dis-ease'. The truth is, IT IS CURABLE AND THE CURE HAS BEEN FOUND. CANNABIS OIL! AMEN. Research: cannabinoids, endocannabinoid system, rick simpson oil, magicbutter machine, cannagoo.

I lost a daughter due to traditional medical treatments. Based upon personal experience, the currently accepted treatment program is flawed. This program is a sham as the bulk of the money raised isn't used for cures, just to advertise. Information regarding natural cures being suppressed. The treatments used now actually are what kills the patient. Statistics of those who "survive" are usually based upon surviving the first round of it. Thanks Gaiam for pointing out the commercialism behind the pink ribbon.

ALL disease is caused by the mind: the human race's insistence that it is apart from God. Acknowledge that God is your source-the source of your being- and he will heal you. It's REALLY that simple.

I have seen the men's point of view. Fathers, grandfathers, husbands, CEOs or any other masculine view just to make it less bias. Thanks.
