Planeat (2012)

Only available in Canada, United States

PLANEAT is the story of three men's life-long search for a diet that's good for your health, the environment, even our planet. Along with pioneering chefs and some of the best cooking you have ever seen, the scientists and doctors in the film present a convincing case for the West to adopt a plant-based diet.

The documentary features the ground-breaking work of Dr. T Colin Campbell in China exploring the link between diet and disease, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn's use of diet to treat heart disease patients and Professor Gidon Eshel's investigations into how our food choices contribute to global warming, land use and oceanic dead zones.

Informative and encouraging, the film shows how the problems we face today can be solved, without simply resorting to a diet of lentils and lettuce leaves.

the sound is so LOW, why? I can't heard this great video

This documentary is great, but it massively understates how truly hard on the environment it is to eat animal products. Also, there is NO such thing as humane animal exploitation. Watch Cowspiracy, and go vegan. :)

Love to you :)

It's a shame that the most interesting documentaries like this one are unavailable in Europe. Why is that? If we all pay the same ammount to access the Gaiam Tv, then we should all be able to access the same content, shouldn't we?

@KESCARDOSO - We apologize for any inconvenience and do understand your frustration. However, sometimes we are just not able to obtain the licensing rights for certain countries or regions. We do our best and continue to try to obtain the licensing rights for as many viewing areas as possible. This document does not speak to the long term effects of eliminating healthy fats from the diet and does not follow organic food production far enough. A vegan diet - especially RAW vegan - can be very healing, but some protein foods must be added for the long term. Many vegans "cheat" just enough to avoid the decline that eventually comes to the strict vegan. Also, the farmer was right. You need animals to sustain an organic farm.

Thank you for sharing this common concern about protein. There are vegans that cheat at times and I know veganism can seem scary for some people. Just take your time and make it fun! Eating more of the good stuff is definitely going to be better for health, so doing so imperfectly is more beneficial than not doing so at all. It has been 7 1/2 years for me (no cheating) and I feel so healthy. There has been no decline as I get lots of protein. There are plenty of wonderful proteins in the plant world! Check out this link to Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine that puts the mind at ease: :)

How do you know that vegans cheat ? I'm vegan and I don't cheat. Why do people make up things to support their argument ???

Nice overview of how differing diets affect our bodies and the planet.

Thank you so much for this truly inspiring film. I am a vegetarien since April 2011, which was very easy for me, I also make Green smoothiies almost daily. The only thing I have a hard time staying away from is cheese. This film has given me new inside and new inspiration to find other alternatives for my cheese gravings. Thank you to all the doctors for their research and dedication. Change can and will happen, it start with each one of us.
Fantastic film, thank you again.

Excellent film. I didn't really need convincing that a primarily plant-based diet is superior to the standard American diet (SAD) or that of other industrialized countries. But since I'm pretty sure that there has never been an entirely vegan human culture and that vegans and vegetarians typically don't live as long as meat eaters, due to missing key amino acids in their diets, I would have liked to have had the three doctors talk about that, as well. I mean, humans ARE truly omnivores, not herbivores. Aside from that, a most fascinating and compelling production.

One of the best documentaries I've watched. I am an ayurvedic therapist and this is wonderful, it simply verifies everything I've been studying and practicing. I know this movie will be a life changing experience for many people. I will highly recommend this movie and congratulate the creators and collaborators of this amazing work. 5 STARS!

I absolutely loved this film. It makes so much sense. It has so many delicious recipes and it goes along with the way I have been cooking. I do all my shopping at OB People's Coop here in San Diego because they believe in this whole food way of eating that is plant-based. They don't sell any meat in their store. I highly recommend this film and rate it a 5 of 5! Bravo!

I don't even know how to cook, but this movie has lead me to believe that I have to learn. Maybe starting from scratch, cooking vegetables, is a good thing-not too influenced by the "old way". We have a son who is a chef & I hope we can get him to watch this movie while it is still available. It is fantastic - very educational on so many levels. Thank you Gaiam!! Diana
