Raymond Moody in Pursuit of the Afterlife

Dr. Raymond Moody is the world’s leading expert in the field of near-death experience (a phrase he himself coined more than 30 years ago). His book, Life After Life, is the seminal work in its field and has sold more than 13 million copies since its publication in 1976. He sat down with Lisa Garr for a wide-ranging and eye-opening conversation about his years of research, the conclusions he has reached and his hopes for much greater understanding in the future.

Together, they discussed the commonality of the reports of near-death experience – a buzzing sound, separation from the body, a tunnel, apparitions of deceased loved ones, light, a review of one’s life, and, most important, an overwhelming sense of love and acceptance. Dr. Moody revealed how his studies of Ancient Greece ignited his interest in the afterlife, and he describes how his research helped him locate the site of the Greek Oracle of the Dead and an understanding of its secrets.

“Love is the most important thing.” That is the conclusion Dr. Raymond Moody has reached from listening to more than a thousand accounts of near-death experiences. Many survivors said they came to understand the hurt they had caused when they had behaved in a mean-spirited or cruel way. Many also explained that they had experienced a sense of love that was beyond anything they had experienced before, and that it was total and all-accepting. And they overwhelmingly remarked that the experience had taught them to be kinder and more loving.

Don’t miss this fascinating interview, in which the possibilities of the afterlife offer great wisdom for how we might best conduct ourselves in this life.
