Over the Islands of Africa: São Tomé & Príncipe (2011)
Travel with German photographer Rui Camilo to the West African island state of São Tomé and Príncipe in search of pictures that capture the soul of the tiny country.
Meet Italian Claudio Corallo, who experiments with all-but-forgotten cocoa plant varieties in pursuit of producing the best chocolate in the world, and see the overgrown ruins around the islands that bear witness to a colonial past.
In a workshop, Camilo shows aspiring young photographers how to capture their world, and between lessons explores the two fascinating tropical islands – on foot, by Jeep and from a propeller plane. He encounters deserted palm-lined beaches, an almost untouched lush primeval forest and hatching sea turtles.
