Slow to Flow

Available worldwide

This vinyasa practice, influenced by Iyengar and Ashtanga, with Andrea Marcum gives you a chance to feel Iyengar-influenced long holds and the assist of your blocks as Andrea sets up the choreography. Then, Andrea shifts towards more movement and flow, revealing some of the differences between Iyengar’s techniques and the pacing of Ashtanga. Though not classical Iyengar or Ashtanga sequencing, Slow to Flow is a fun little experiment that allows you to experience the same postures in Iyengar and Ashtanga-esque settings. “Good” yoga is yoga that feels good today and in the days to come.

The amazing actress and yogini, Andrea Bogart, joins Andrea as her student for this class.

That was beautiful. I find I always learn something from you that I carry into the rest of my practice/life. I lengthen my tailbone regularly now and find that I am so much more comfortable.
I agree, yours is a very encouraging style and I always feel like you are right in the room with me. Love that core work and the way you keep bringing it up as a a reference for the standing and twisting poses.
Thank you!

Thank you for these wonderful messages! I'm thrilled that these practices are speaking to you. It has me smiling all the way from Copenhagen and Amsterdam that if feels like I'm in the room with you. Encouraging is one of my favorite things to hear. Thanks a million for practicing with me here! Xx A

We love our yoga instructor at our studio but he doesn't teach all the time and we can't get there everytime he teaches either. However, we have discovered Andrea's classes and get to take her with us where ever we go! She is so calming and encouraging. I have not taken a class of hers that I have not thought was super. (There are some we don't repeat because they are too hard for us but that is us not her.) I always feel so much better after one of her classes! Thanks for your efforts Andrea!

i really like the core work at the beginning. it helps me be aware of and engage my core throughout the practice. putting it at the beginning reminded me of a forrest yoga style, at least my limited experience with it. once the pace really picked up the class was too fast for me and i felt like i was rushing through the poses. i thought that part would be more like ashtanga, holding poses for 5 breaths. thanks!

This was great! I've been shying away from "tougher" stuff after having my 2nd baby (6 months ago!) and now I'm easing back in. Phew! Those holds were hard, but also worth it. Thank you!

Really glad you enjoyed this. Congrats on a six-month-old! It's wonderful to have you practice with me. I'm a big fan of your screen-name! xx A

Hey Andrea, loved that one!
I have one question: What's the reason for meeting both heels in a line when being in Warrior II?
Doing so, I find myself almost dropping the front knee in and the hip out. I like placing the back foot more to the other side, so I have more stability and the front leg is in one line with the front hip.
I'm looking forward to more videos from you!

You are bang on regarding modifying for your body! Stability is the magic word. "Heel to arch" alignment in this pose is typically how it has been queued but heel to heel stance is more accessible to many bodies. Yoga is wonderfully personal and that means alignment has less to do with what a pose looks like and more to do with how it feels. Really great to hear that you are tuned in to your instrument and that you're creating beautiful music with it! Thanks for practicing with me. xx A

I found this sequence loading the hip and knees; needed to switch sides between poses!

So glad you adjusted and modified to make things work for you - the sign of an advanced practitioner indeed! Great to have you practicing with me here on My Yoga. xx A

By the end of this practice I found myself *almost* enjoying twisting half moon and twisting triangle! These poses are challenging for my flexibility and balance, but your encouraging cues and near-insistence on using blocks (thank you!!) allowed me to explore them a little. I was even able to breathe while in them, whereas I usually clench my jaw and wonder why "3 breaths" feels like 30 minutes. :-) Thank you, Andrea, for your supportive and rewarding classes.

I really appreciated the Iyengar sensibility of this practice. That's my preferred method (for 25 years now) and there's not much of it on My Yoga. This was a great integration of both Iyengar and Jois's methodologies without being in any way out of scope for the average practitioner of either method.

This class incorporates revolved standing poses which I have been avoiding of late! It was just the right challenge for me and those long holds were very sneaky! But the final result...sitting here right now feeling the glow! Thank you Andrea!
