It's very interesting to hear the stark contrast of what we're taught in school about the wealth and economics about these past civilizations and closer historical times. Hopefully there's helpful information in that book for the powers that be to learn from so that we don't spiral into a darker time and so that we can continue to prosper. Thank you!!!

Essential this perspective on the real value of money (as a trading tool for real goods) be heard by more of us. Very enjoyable interview, even if I do think Stephen is a little generous in surmising the central bank didn't understand the local currency system - I think they illegalised it specifically because they did! This local currency gave self determination back to the people - who needs government? Who needs banks with so much 'real' wealth? Who needs to be controlled and manipulated into the Babylonian-debt-slavery-system when they have economic self-reliance and are able to generate their own means and capital? Will be interested in reading more gems in the book. Thanks for this interview.

Although this was an interesting interview, I urge the viewer to be more critical of some of the information presented here. I do agree with the thrust of the video, on the benefits of complementary currencies, but the interviewee's understanding of economics beyond that is, unfortunately, quite flawed. Eg. At min 48:00, he says "but as we know today, it was not the New Deal that got us out of the depression, it was actually our entry and preparation for World War II."

This is a common fallacy known as the broken window fallacy. I have written about it here:

Only one example, but there are several other mentions of poor economic understanding that I am not going to detail.

If the reader is curious to understand what money really is, look no further than Rothbard's excellent and definitive piece:

It is so disheartening that so many people in the new age movement who have a genuine desire to effect a positive world are so easily duped by bad economics and have such a poor understanding of the single most important discovery in human history: money! The only person I am aware of that understands economics is Foster Gamble, as evident in his wonderful documentary, Thrive.

It opens the mind to a possibility that was unimaginable before.

However, the explanation is wrong: this talk is not about gold.

Can't wait for further installments!

I am inspired to start a group in my town, TODAY. Then, bring the group idea to City Hall and present the Time Banking. Chaos is preventable if there is another system ready to step in. We all want to live in a safe and thriving community. This movie presents an excellent step in this direction. I'd love to see a continuation of this discussion and a little more depth on systems that are being used at this time. I think the only piece missing here is the "how" for many people. It's a start!

Exactly what I needed to hear today.

Fascinating. Everyone should know the history of currency systems revealed in this interview, and be open for change in our times.
