Turning Back Time (2001)

Only available in United States

On the tiny Pacific island nation of Vanuatu people are looking back to find their future. This remote nation is one of the last remaining places on earth where true Stone Age culture and tradition persists.

While the rest of the world is rushing to the future, these people are rejecting 200 years of “western ways” and embracing the ways of their ancestors.

Another poorly done anthropology video, glorifying tradition but saying little about the actual cultures of the islands. You don't get much information about anyone, but what you do get is focused on the men. Women's roles are described as "traditional," which of course, should mean nothing to a good anthropologist. You get to listen to some man in a western safari shirt tell us how sexism in their culture is just "custom," and all custom is apparently positive. The whole video is narrated by a British man, to make it sound more legitimate.
