The Change Makers: The United States (2010)
The Change Makers documents brave people who fight for a cause, visionaries who help others when the system breaks. Father Boyle of Mission Delores helps to get kids out of gangs by setting up Homeboy Industries as a training center and job locating service. Saying “nothing stops a bullet like a job,” he works hard to save as many gang member lives as possible. In L.A., Celine visits a growing culture of gay rappers bringing their issues to light and fighting against negative biases against the gay community. Moving on to New York, we meet a doctor who works almost for free to provide medical care for those who cannot afford it. He also runs a restaurant and co-op network to provide employment and training to help people get back on their feet. In New Jersey Celine explores an organic farm that seems like a pioneer because it is adopting traditional methods for raising cattle. The most controversial program is the production of raw milk cheese, which challenges the perceptions of many consumers.
