Voices in the Clouds (2010)

Only available in Canada, United States

Captivated by the cultural discoveries around him, an Asian-American man journeys back to his homeland of Taiwan. Inspired by the vast landscapes he explores, and the gentle souls of the people he encounters, his life is changed forever. He discovers that he and his family are descendants of a unique, indigenous tribal culture named Atayal. The Atayal — and other tribal cultures on the island — are in danger of disappearing forever.

Voices in the Clouds is an intimate exploration of one man’s quest to understand his heritage. At the heart of the film lies the celebration of family and cultural preservation. Through this amazing journey, the film hopes to encourage viewers to carve their own path toward self-discovery.

Fantastic documentary about the importance of valuing and preserving indigenous culture and knowledge, but also in how getting in touch with our past, our ancestors and our heritages can help open up dimensions of our being we never knew about.

A fabulous, important documentary. May others seek to learn and preserve their heritage and value all indigenous cultures. Their teachings will lead us back to nature, peace, and harmony. Their wisdom must not be lost. Excellent, Tony, producers, and family.

Makes me want to go to the countryside in Hungary and look for my Granny's relatives!

This movie reminds us of what draws us back into each moment of living, and what can help us feel greater than we are because of the sum of our roots/connections. Tony's journey is universal. Gracefully done.

I can't help but be struck by the similarities to Native American indigenous peoples and cultures. And I can't avoid the fact that this same pattern of destruction of indigenous societies has happened, and is still happening, everywhere in the world to one degree or another. This was a beautiful movie that will have an impact upon me for a long time.

Deeply moving portrayal of a human being traveling back up stream to the source of his heart, his life. Beautifully filmed and a delight to watch!
