Extreme Environments: Volcano (2008)

Episode 5
Available worldwide

Volcanic eruptions are devastating, often killing thousands and displacing many more. Yet people continue to live near active volcanoes because the ash and lava enrich the soil. Some volcanoes lay dormant for centuries, even millennia, at a stretch, creating catastrophic consequences when they finally erupt. We look at volcanoes around the world, including such well-known ones as Vesuvius, Popocatepetl, Merapi, St. Helens and Fuji.
