Landscape as Muse: Weaton Valley with Keith Wolfe Smarch (2005)
We head up to the Wheaton Valley in The Yukon, with artist Keith Wolf Smarch. This is one of his favorite spots. He shares some of his back history about how he came into totem animals and what they mean to him. As he talks, he is carving a traditional spoon. We see every detail of the carving process.
He shares his insights to his connections with the land and the people, and how his art communicates this connection. At one point, the art of his people disappeared from the culture. He is working to preserve the art for future generations by teaching his art so that they can teach the next generation.
